Losing a 3 game lead in the last week of the season.

I would call losing 10 of 12 in early August choking away a lead, if one were in first place and they lost that placement, yeah, not a "choke" as that to me is an end of the season, end of the game, playoffs kind of thing.

Yes, most educated sports fans know a choke when they see it. I think it's a term that's generally accepted in sports that requires no real qualification. What is the defination of a "close play"? Is it a play in which a player is safe or out by a certain amount? Would a guy thrown out by 6 inches on a steal be a close play but a guy thrown out by 7 inches be "out by a mile" or would it not be a close play?
