It's preposterous to think I'm wrong about this. Paul Konerko didn't succumb to pressure. He just didn't hit. Those young pitchers didn't "shit the bed". Quintana is a guy you rode as far as you could and Sale had never thrown anywhere close to that many innings. Some people think he should have been shut down at 160. They just weren't good enough. Is it really so hard to see that?

Are there any players you specifically think folded under the huge pressure of a pennant race nobody was watching?

How could nobody have been watching America's Favorite Sport?

Lots of guys folded when it counted. Team effort. Pitching wasn't great. Offense scored 5 runs twice since 9/17. Sale was bad in his last big game. Beckham 2 for last 19. Paulie 5 for his last 25. Dunn 3 for last 25. Alexi 4 for last 23. Viciedo 3 for last 19. I'm just glancing here. You don't see this being... not good? Not the season averages? Below expectations when games NEEDED to be won? What else has to be said man?

Of course I see it as "not good." What I don't see it as is "choking." And that isn't a semantic argument. I see choking as something very specific. Like a professional golfer missing a one foot putt to win the Masters. A 90% free throw shooter missing two with the game on the line. "Choking" suggests that pressure was the factor that caused the failure. I just don't believe that was the case with this team. Guys like Ramirez and Beckham have an inordinately high number of RBI for the way they've hit all season. That was likely to stop sooner or later. Frankly, I'm amazed it went as long as it did. Dunn was 3 for 25. Two more little hits and he'd be at his average for the season. He's a strange player. I doubt there has ever been a guy with 40 homers who didn't slug .500. Konerko and Pierzynski fell apart late. I don't believe these two guys who have been considered "clutch" their whole careers suddenly "choked". But it is what it is. No playoffs this season.

Oh my dear Christ. Really?

This wasn't one putt. It was 14 games. It's not two free throws. They're 25-30 at bats.
Why are you so quick to dismiss pressure as the cause of their total collapse? Today the pressure was off. What did they do today, with no pressure, JORR? Was today's game at all different from their last 14?

You just need to stop sailing down da Nile river. You just plain are wrong. It happens. It happened today. And largely yesterday. It's ok. No one really cares that much that you're wrong.

I'll drop it now. i've made my claims, strongly backed them up with solid facts and numbers. It's over, it's all over.

I'll leave you now. Later, JORR. It was fun.

You're just full of shit. Yesterday you told me that pressure wasn't the issue. Now you're telling me players were scared and nervous. Make up your mind. You haven't backed up shit. You can't even define "choke' for Christ's sake. Nobody cares that you're wrong. But keep going. Arguing with me might just make you relevant in this forum like you were three years ago.

Nope. Wrong again. Darkside wins. It's already been decided, and is not up for review.

Thanks for the interesting conversation that you were wrong about. I very much enjoyed making you look bad.

We shall match wits once again, rest assured my man.

Consider this my acceptance speech.

Later!

The fact that more dopes agree with Darkside isn't exactly a ringing endorsement. He's got Mully and Hanley on his side too.

I am very smart and I could give less than two shits about M@H. I always thought you were smart as well until your rant on this thread. Now I have some serious thoughts about your mental capacity. I thought you were a well spoken dude of smart well bred intelligent stock. now I have doubts.
