The sports talk won't debut until the New Year, but the new CBS Sports Radio Network continues to add to its daily lineup well ahead of its scheduled premiere.

Just a couple of days after the new network announced the addition of Los Angeles-based sports "shock jock" Jim Rome to bring his "Jungle" middays 11A-2P (CT) followed by Doug Gottlieb's afternoon show from 2-6P (CT), CBS Sports Radio has announced the addition of Scott Ferrall for latenights.

Ferrall, who had been hosting on Howard Stern's Howard 101 on Sirius/XM Satellite Radio since 2006, will revive "Ferrall On The Bench" on the new CBS Sports Radio starting January 2nd. Ferrall's new show will feature the day's headlines & most talked about sports topics, along with plenty of listener interaction & special guests along the way.

Before you get too excited, just like Rome & Gottlieb during the day, CBS Sports Radio's Chicago station WSCR 670 The SCORE will NOT carry Ferrall's new latenight show as things stand right now. With White Sox season winding down, it's still unclear how much, if any national sports talk WSCR will carry via the new network.

The press release for Ferrall's new show can be found here:

I wonder if they'll use one of their FM stations' HD subchannels to do 24/7 C-B-S-SPORTS-RA-DI-O. Nobody will be able to listen to it because nobody can listen to HD Radio, but nobody would want to listen to Doug Gottlieb anyway.

CH, it's not necessarily related, but here's what I've read in regards to a possible SCORE expansion. The big boss of CBS Radio's Chicago properties, Rod Zimmerman, also the V.P. & General Manager of 780 WBBM-AM & 105.9 WCFS-FM (WBBM Newsradio), shot down rumors that CBS Radio bosses in New York might pull the plug on 104.3 K-Hits' classic hits format in favor of a simulcast of WSCR 670 The SCORE's sports talk lineup in an interview with TimeoutChicago.com's Rob Feder a few weeks ago. Zimmerman also disputed talk that CBS Radio's local bosses wouldn't have a say in the future of 104.3 FM here.

While it's unclear how much longer K-Hits will be heard, there are a couple of possibilities that CBS might consider for its struggling 104.3 FM frequency. While a rumored SCORE simulcast can't be ruled out, there's also been talk about possibly relocating WSCR's live, local sports talk, including White Sox baseball, to the FM side where K-Hits is currently located while 670 AM would be converted into a 24/7 outlet for the new CBS Sports Radio Network. Nothing is set in stone, but I predict FM sports talk will become a reality within the next 5 years in this market.

This much I also know. WEEI SportsRadio, which is already a regional sports network that serves Boston and much of New England, last year became the latest in a growing line of sports talk radio outlets to be heard on BOTH AM & FM. This past Friday, WEEI expanded their sports talk programming. Listeners up there hoping to find live, local sports talk, including Red Sox baseball & Celtics basketball, can find them on 93.7 FM in Boston. WEEI has converted their 850 AM frequency into a full-time national ESPN Radio outlet. It's in Boston, not here...

Shit.

If they convert the AM frequency to all National, I won't have anything to listen to at work. Can't get FM in on my radio, and can't stream online.

I hate national sports talk.

If you're wondering why Jim Rome is a "shock jock", maybe this clip might refresh your memory...

I think the "shock jock" title for Jim Rome dates back a lot further than the infamous Jim Everett incident on Rome's old "Talk2" show in the early years of ESPN2, circa 1992. The title definitely applies to Howard Stern, Mancow Muller & Steve Dahl.

Maybe. I really don't like the term in the first place, but I still wouldn't put Rome in the same category though. Apples and Oranges....

I think they're called that, Krazy, because they're not afraid to push the creative envelope and risk getting fined by the FCC.

Right. And Rome doesn't fit that mold. Not sure if you are a listener but he does very little, if any, envelope pushin'.
