For some reason I was thinking about this last night and tried to think of what my short list would be.
I haven't been to that many states west of the Mississippi but I'd be interested in seeing what others
come up with. If you absolutely have to claim somewhere in Canada, Caribbean or overseas feel free
but I am mostly interested in the USA.

1. For me it would have to be West Virginia. Ass backwards in a lot of ways but you can't take anything
away from the views that place has.

2. I was only in Maine once and for a week but I definitely can't wait to go back there again someday. I
spent a week in a cabin on a lake with no tv or phone and miles and miles from any town. Gorgeous.

3. Hawaii. Pretty much enough said here. Spent a week on Oahu and Maui, would love to go back one day.

Honorable Mention -- Northern Wisconsin, especially in the late summer and early fall when the leaves change.

Pennsylvanian. Coming out of the Allegheny Tunnel seeing the entire landscape spread out before you was breath taking.
West Palm Beach Florida ,watching the sunrise on the beach after a night of total debauchery was the perfect way to start the day.

i agree with West Virginia, also far western Maryland - spent a week there this summer and it was gorgeous. Massachusetts - Cape Cod and Nantucket in autumn is absolutely fabulous.

Kentucky is the ugliest. Or maybe it's just Ft Knox.

Arizona has a lot of picturesque areas. Sedona is very nice. Like Doug said, the area near Flagstaff has good scenery. It's pretty astounding the difference between Northern AZ and the dump that is Phoenix and anything south. Though, I've seen some decent desert scenery in Scottsdale.

Wyoming is pretty similar to Arizona in that most of the state sucks and is boring as shit. But then Grand Tetons and Yellowstone are nuts.

Upper state New York is pretty awesome too. The hiking/views with the Adirondacks are nice to look at too.

California. Especially No. Cal & a drive along the PCH is a blast.

And...I still love the swamps in South Louisiana.

Of all of the cross country drives we took when I was a kid, the Rockies rising up after 1000miles of flat assed, no features plains states is just short of riding along the Pacific Coast in my favorite driving memories.

The drive up through the Smokey Mountains from Gatlinburgh, TN into North Carolina is breathtaking. It's the most zen like experience I've ever had. Simply gorgeous.

Wow just got back from a trip doing the Bourbon trail and the area down by Mammoth Cave and eastern Kentucky is pretty beautiful. Rolling hills and twisty roads and all that. Second for upstate NY being spectacular.

The whole country is beautiful except for the suburban areas and interstate sprawl. Hell even Illinois is beautiful down south and nearer to the Mississippi.

It might just be Ft Knox. The grass was all yellowish brown. There was a bunch of huge hills but they were half dirt half grass. There was a big pond there that had a murky greenish/brown tint to it. That place sucks.

I've been through that area myself, and you're absolutely right. It's beautiful.

The drive down highway 89 to From Livingston to Gardner to Yellowstone Park, which is thru Montana and into Wyoming.

Colorado, specifically Rocky Mountain Nat'l Park, is awesome as well.

The Gasconade region of Missouri, kinda between Jefferson City and St. Louis, is quite nice.

Maine by far is the most beautiful I have seen.

Upper NY is nice.

West Virginia is in the team photo

Napa Valley was awesome. Agree on Sedona...that's also nice. I thought Martha's Vineyard was also beautiful.

Upper NY in fall is gorgeous. Tennessee is beautiful too, especially east of Nashville. My experience is mostly east of the Mississippi.
