Yeah some of the vistas in the area around Dubuque are pretty great...especially one across the river on the highway south of Galena...next time I drive by I wil take a pic.

I like the Galena area. Good terrain there.

When you're heading downstate on I-39, I want to say, there's that Starved Rock park by the Illinois River that's kinda cool. After that, though, hoo boy.

That place is AWESOME!

The road along the river there is probably the best drive in Illinois. But Streator is hell on Earth. Civilization pretty much stops at Cermak road as far as downstate goes.

I think its state road 35 in WI that follows the Missisippi until LaCrosse. It is awesome this time of year.

Love the GW Parkway in DC this time of year. From Mt Vernon to I-495 is beautiful. Was in Ft Smith, AR in June for business. i had no idea that AR was such a pretty place.

Starved Rock is the 2nd best park area within a 3 mile radius.

Tennessee and Kentucky. Especially driving through the mountains and around the pigeon forge area. Kentucky is also nice, especially through some of the back areas with all the horse farms. Been through those states in the fall and the color change is awesome and spring is really nice too when it is blooming.

Now you are in Dally's nape of the neck. I'm a 10 minute drive from Starved Rock (free Chester Weger!!), and you are spot on with your assessment of Steator. It's like Joliet's kid sister. Keep your peter outta Streator!

Streator is more like an even more lifeless DeKalb.

When I travel out west to hospitals and such....I slink through many places that remind me of a lifeless and smaller DeKalb.

It's just depressing.

As I post this, I am driving through the fine city of Streator. In one strip mall you can get a pay day loan, tattoo, and get your nails done.

Without a doubt, Alaska. When you retire, or sooner if possible, take the 3 weeks, drive there, tour the state and drive back. You will never regret the trip.

Took a 15 state road trip out west after college and I was surprised at just how beautiful Wyoming was to drive through.

The west coast of Michigan is really nice to drive through - Sleeping Bear Dunes up near Traverse is one of my favorite places to visit.
