He joins host Ben Bentley & longtime Chicago Sun-Times & South Bend Tribune columnist Bill Gleason at that table where "The SportsWriters on TV" was always taped live, complete with the trademark cigar smoke.

loved him on "Sportswriters" on Sunday night back in my yout

I felt kind of sad watching him cover Loyola games at the end of his run but I'm sure he was just doing it just to have something to do with his time.

I've gotta think longtime AP writer Joe Mooshil is also in that press box in the sky, too. Mooshil occasionally sat in with Gleason, Bentley & Jauss at the table when Telander was at the time on Sports Illustrated assignment.

Yep. I remember the show when it was on the radio only.

Is Lester Munson still with us?

Very much alive, complete with the black dress shirt & red tie. Lester Munson, I believe, is now with ESPN on the sports legal beat.

It wasn't that long ago that Comcast SportsNet actually aired reruns of "The SportsWriters on TV", complete with little pop-in facts since the show originally aired on the defunct SportsChannel/FOX Sports Chicago. That was before legal issues forced the reruns off the air.

Eyebrow envy....real and spectacular.

R.I.P., Bill

Always loved Young Sports Writers back in the day, especially when they got screamy.

That is a real downer. Sportswriters on TV was the 1 sports show my mom and I would watch together. RIP Jauss.

I have fond memories of listening to the Sportwriters on WGN radio on Sunday afternoons with my dad, good times. Very sad, indeed.

What I remember about the Sportswriters on TV is how I learned to hate the show because of the liberalism crap they used to spout. Gleason & Jauss used to patronize womens athletics constantly on that show while Telander,Mooshil & Lester Munson seemed more solid and grounded in reality.
