Danny Mac announced on his FB page that he woke up to the "bittersweet news" that Jason Goff had taken a gig in Atlanta and wished him all the best.

Wow.

This is the first I've heard of this.

Thanks for breaking the news, Terry Boers.

Probably the best move for him. He had hit a ceiling with the Score a while ago. Now he can move up in the industry and still come back with Chicago cred should a spot ever open. It also whipes away the Score taint should he want to work for ESPN

What makes you guys think he will succeed? Not that he won't, just why do you think so? He has that attitude of him being him, that might not work.

He has a personality, he is his own man. He has been in the press box and locker room. Also able to conduct an interview. Is able to talk to/about women without sounding like a creepy weirdo.

My bias is iKve enjoyed his work since the Last Call shows with drinky. Seeing that the musical chairs(or air shifts) was about to stop, he got out of town and his own show. I would expect him to be back on the air, during a regular daypart, in Chicago in 5-10 years. Call it the Speigel program. Leave town, become a full fledged host, and come back when a new show host needs a partner. Steak dinner, BOOM!

+: Jason is extremely knowledgeable on sports facts and figures, and has a great passion for sports and talking about them. He's very good at bringing the populism and inclusiveness necessary in sports talk radio. He can talk about regular guy stuff beyond sports, which you need to do to humanize yourself to listeners and to navigate the rough patches of sportslessness that will come from doing a daily, year-round show.

-: Sometimes the passion for talking sports can manifest itself in talking too hurriedly and being generally scatterbrained, especially if he's flying solo or the fish aren't biting. And despite knowing as much as he knows, he can be rhetorically sloppy at times: too many "people were saying x but I said y" when people neither said x nor did he say y. Doesn't always choose his battles well on race talk; the stuff about Comiskey last week was downright embarrassing.

Overall, there's no reason he can't do well if he keeps his cool and leaves the Dan Bernstein Econo-Sized Bag O' Logical Fallacies in Chicago.

I think he has shown raw talent. A couple of years doing a regular show should help him with his diction (by cracky), pace of speaking and articulation problems. A full production team should help keep him focused. A full time show should provide him time to think about what it is he wants to say on a daily basis. Jason is the "ugly" girl in a going to prom movie who gets the makeover and suddenly is hot as she appears at the top of the stairs as her date arrives.

"bittersweet"...what a douche bag. Just wish him well and keep your thoughts to yourself.

Really nice moment at the end of B&B yesterday. For a show that prides itself on being cynical pissy curmudgeons, they really put away the act and let some real talk go through. Terry sounded like he was even tearing up a bit at the end.

Summed up the show perfectly when Jason with tears in eyes and choking up managed to say 'Go to break ya jerk.' Gonna miss that dynamic, hopefully Herb can fill the void.

also, GOFF GONE is the #1 runner up to "DEEP WOODS GOFF" in our contest to find a name for Danny Mack's new Goff-repellent aerosol spray.

Incidentally, speaking of DEEP WOODS GOFF, if I were Jason i'd avoid any canoeing/kayaking trips out in the country down there. * menacing banjo * Keep it urban like all the people bitching about 92.9 don't/want it.
