Just read this story on Gawker and found it pretty interesting. I'm sorta torn on this. I think the troll has every right to post what he did but I also think the journalist had a right to out the troll. That's fair, right?

I think the article put it pretty succinctly: "...if 14-year-olds didn't want their bikini pictures to be posted to Reddit, they should not have taken them and uploaded them to their Facebook accounts in the first place. If Brutsch did not want his employers to know that he had become a minor internet celebrity through spending hours every day posting photos of 14-year-olds in bikinis to thousands of people on the internet, he should have stuck to posting cat videos."

I would wonder what was so remarkable that one person in an environment of million(s) of anonymous people deserved different treatment. The answer needs to be better than he made posts offensive to some, because that is a subjective standard.

of course they do...but the "action" taking place is being performed by an agent of reddit. If the content is offensive, it is Reddit's content. Perform the expose on Reddit and let the public decide if it is acceptable....but she did not do that and the language of the writer gives a pretty clear indication that this was a personal vendetta (even the quotes she tries to use don't seem to fit with the narrative she is attempting to create). This was an abuse of her ethics, whatever those may be for reporters and I would hope she would never find work at a legitimate news source due to this piece.

I am left asking myself what the point was of this piece. It clearly wasn't to put a stop to offensive material on reddit. It wasn't even to stop a particular kind of offensive section of reddit as someone else will take up this guy's work. She didn't even want to stop one particular poster as he offered to stop and delete everything he had done in the past. No, all she wanted to do was out him.

now actions have consequences so extrapolate the actions of the reporter and determine if they are acceptable...displaying the personal information (and his family) of a person not because of offensive posting content (as I explained above, she really didn't care about) but only because he is popular is full on sociopathic behavior. She is the stalker she decries in her story.
