Come to think of it, when Goff's war with Mac escalated, he wasn't getting many air shifts anymore. The weekends and late nights were going to Randazzo, Finfer, Conner and Joe O. Maybe that was Mitch's punishment for Goff.

He also went on vacation for like two weeks...which makes me think Goff used his vacation time so he didn't lose it.

I can't help but feel partially responsible for this. That leaked info seems to have started a shit storm. Should have let the discussions stay behind the scenes...

Like we wouldn't be gossiping about Goff's departure. You just gave a bit of a basis for said gossip.

So maybe it was my initial theory where Mitch and Zim made Atlanta happen and Goff didn't know it was actually a push out. Or maybe Mitch told Goff to start looking else where after the McNeil thing. Or maybe Goff knew he needed to start looking else where after the McNeil thing cuz he felt that it sunk him at the Score.

One day Mac will tell us the true Hollywood story.

One thing is for sure. Drinky is now scared to death of Dan McNeil. You won't ever hear him cracking wise at Mac's expense.

Part of the quiet, tragic beauty of the ending of Godfather II is that in one short, silent scene, in which Michael Corleone sits motionless, we learn everything we need to know about his future as he sits there thinking about what he's done.

Tonight, in NW Indiana, Dan McNeil is sitting motionless just like Michael did as Goff boards a plane to Atlanta.

I'm also starting to think that Goff went to the Siberia of sports radio stations. A new sports talker in Atlanta? The 3rd one in the city. C'mon. They don't like sports there. It's a top 10 market but it's still the 3rd sports station in that city. Those other stations aren't gonna lose to this one. He had to go. Don't get me wrong. But I don't think this station will last more than 2 years.

I heard Goff on with Laurence Holmes last night. Jason said that CBS Radio is putting a lot of $$$$ into the new FM sports talker called The Game starting October 24th, complete with plenty of billboards in the Atlanta metro area for the brand new station.

Other than the billboard behind the plate and down the first base line at White Sox games, there aren't any billboards for The SCORE around Chicago. Honest!

It's not webio. CBS runs it. The paychecks will clear. But it's just doomed to fail.

Yeah, Bernstien knows it's gonna fail. He didn't have the heart to tell Goff. Goff has no wife or kids. He can do this. It might benefit him. Couldn't hurt. It's not like he can't fall back to a producer job somewhere. That's all he left.

My advice to Goff is to stop going to clubs where it's $350 for a bottle of vodka. Save some of the Atlanta money for the 2 years you're down there. I'm guessing it's 60 to 70k a year. You'll need some savings for that rainy day that's coming.

I don't doubt that CBS is dumping money into the promotion of this Atlanta station. They just launced a national sports radio station. They probably didn't have one in Atlanta.

Doesn't mean it's gonna be a success.

For Goff, he's a night time host. So he'll be doing shows during Braves and Hawks games. That's at least half of the year. Goff is probably plotting to take down the day-part hosts and get one of those shows. He's always looking for an enemy. Randy Cross, the morning show host at this station, is probably his target. He's a Dan McNeil type.

I think the big picture view for CBS Sports Radio is to have their national shows in major markets. I think I read those national shows start in January. I'll bet we'll eventually get a CBS FM station that has the CBS national shows in Chicago.

I think Jim Rome will eventually be a part of CBS sports radio. CBS might even push him on the Score.

I wonder if the Atlanta commenters were right and this will be an "urban sports talk" station. I find it equal parts intriguing and disappointing. I mean, obviously lots of black guys listen to sports radio, so it seems like a natural evolution of the format. On the other hand, I think it's pretty cool that sports radio is probably the most color-blind format on the dial and people can just talk sports with one another without race being important. Of course, I say this as a big fan of the show that irresponsibly insinuates that black people are naturally superior athletes, but in theory, I mean.

I didn't know they were trying to make this an "Urban Sports Talker".

Just looked at the line up. Maybe you're right. Randy Cross is the only white in the day part. So maybe Goff's hate of white people helped him get it. Maybe the PD there is was looking for somebody that drops "Dumb ass cracker" sound drops. Maybe Goff was told to go harder with this bullshit on his new show.

Plus they have that C.J Simpson being the white women slut on the morning show. White sluts are an "Urban" thing, right? Actually, all races love white sluts.

Rachel Baribeau is a part of the afternoon show. So they have a white slut for the morning and afternoon show.

3. Goff's deal with an Atlanta CBS radio station happens in a blink of an eye shortly after these events.

Could it be a coincidence? Sure. Is it likely? No.

What if, after the whole Mac thing went sour, Goff...

Yes, that sounds right. Another door was closed and it made him realize its just not gonna happen at the score

He should show up to the first day of work in a dashiki.

I don't agree with the point that sports talk is color blind. It sure seems to me that shows on the Score with AA hosts get an inordinate amount of AA callers (I know this because I have been trained by the CIA to recognize 1,000 dialiects from across the world).

How about this theory:

Goff was sick of all the BS for a long time and thought he was in a dead end job in Chicago. He applied for the Atlanta job and got it, then decided to be a dick on the way out to buttholes like Mac.

Case closed.

Both of these may very well be the case.

After the all the hype and push from a summer or so ago going absolutely NOWHERE he knew his window slammed shut and he wouldn't be advancing anywhere are the Score he started to take some liberties with piping in during the shows, taking shots and starting low level shit. The final straw was when Mac slammed the door in his face with the selection of Finji has go to fill-in guy.

It will be good for him. He will get his own show, his own way and his own time to develop his own identity and break away from the go-nowhere B&B crap. Actually, Goff getting far, far away from the worn out and tired B&B claptrap is the best thing to happen to his career chances.

He knew he was going to Atlanta for a long time? No. I think it happened quick. Goff said he just signed a 17 month lease on a new apartment. Him taking on Mac for the last year was just Goff being Goff. He learned from B&B. He viewed radio as a war. Mac had become to him what Murph was to B&B. Bernstien taught him that guys like Mac are bad whites. Goff also thought, in his delusional mind, that he was a star on the rise at the Score and that he was more valued than Mac. That never was the case. I also think Mitch and Zim were embarrased and disgusted that Goff was using Bernstein's show to fight Mac. It made their station look like an 8th grade lunch room. It really got out of control. So if he ever had a slim shot at the Score, it was destroyed over the last few months with the stupid "Da Ma Na" war.

We all pretty much agree that Mitch is a scared boss that doesn't like confrontation. This move also served as a passive aggressive message to the rest of his boys. The backups and/or producers. I think drinky will be better behaved after this episode. The other backups were never really a problem, but if they do gain some mild success at the station they now realize that they can't go wild. It's no longer acceptable.

Mitch and Zim just got some control over the station. It had been lacking for some time.
