I haven't listened as much since Mike North left. That's just a fact. You guys can rip him all you want but he was entertaining as hell and treated the callers with respect. Good Luck to Goff, but I really don't get all the love. He was a (very good)producer/part-time host. He will be replaced like any of us.

There's an even worse move The SCORE has made. You remember when The SCORE "let the Bear out of his cage" middays with Laurence Holmes?

Speaking of which, the Bernstein Bear hosting from 6-10 weeknights has to be in the team photo.

Right now, he's the clubhouse leader to succeed Boers. I'm convinced.

Bad at radio.

Not a team guy.

Not very interesting either.

Wonder if Bernsy ever thanked Hood for the career bump?

They made worse moves than ever Telander. Remember when the took the station to basically two local shows on weekdays and none on weekends, including some abortion of a sports handicapper on saturdays and sundays? That almost ruined the station.

GD, before Les Grobstein returned to The SCORE a couple years ago to host "SCORE Overnight", I remember overnights & weekends featured hours & hours of NATIONAL sports talk via Yahoo! Sports Radio's former identity as Sporting News Radio, including paid infomercials during football season for sports handicapping.

If I remember correctly, there was a reason why The SCORE aired syndicated sports talk for hours at a time instead of staying live & local like they do most of the time now. I thought I remember reading that parent company CBS Radio made cutbacks in staff a few years ago due to the recession. It wasn't just The SCORE that was affected. I thought FM stations also owned by CBS and other companies also made similar cutbacks.

When was that? Which were the local shows? I thought they were always live/local on weekdays.

With the exception of a couple years in which The SCORE aired the Men's NCAA Basketball Tournament via the Westwood One/Dial Global/NCAA Radio Network, it's always been live & local weekdays. That includes when WSCR was at 820 & 1160 AM before the station landed at their current home at 670 AM.

As I recall, mornings were local with Stocks and Jocks followed by Murph and Fred, then they went to Dan Patrick's national show mid day, followed by local afternoons. As soon as evening hit, it was national or a game until 5 the next morning. Saturday-Sunday were national-paid for broadcasts except for some Bears pre game.

This lead to the overcompensation of being hyper local as it is today after that proved to be a ratings disaster. I believe it did make the station a lot of money though.

Yikes, that's a rough broadcast day. Surprised they picked up an ESPN show, too. What was 1000 airing instead of Patrick?

Guys, that's not how I remember it. Dan Patrick wasn't on The SCORE until he left ESPN Radio. Unlike when he was on ESPN Radio coast to coast from Noon-3P weekdays, until he got nipped by Jim Rome's syndicated sports talk show via Premiere Radio Networks, the Patrick show was always LIVE up the dial.

When Dan Patrick left ESPN and started up the syndicated radio show 5 years ago, the deal with The SCORE was that the show aired exclusively on tape delay with interviews on 670thescore.com long before the show would air.

When Comcast SportsNet started airing the video version of Dan's show along with FOX Sports Net regionals & DIRECTV's Audience Network, The SCORE dropped Dan's radio show. Unfortunately, CSN stopped airing Dan's show when the programming contract with FOX Sports Net expired in July. Unless you have DIRECTV & Audience Network like I do, you can't get "The Dan Patrick Show" in Chicago.

This makes a lot of sense. It's always struck me as odd how much time and energy the station spends branding itself as CHICAGO'S SPORTS STATION. If I hear one more spot desperately trying to convince me of the Score's bona fides as THE STATION FOR BEARS FANS, followed by a list of their BEARS EXPERTS, I'm going to go Bad Lieutenant on my radio.

Well, even though 1000 is as local as ESPN allows them to be, they still have to give up mornings and an hour of middays (plus whatever else in the off hours), so it makes some sense to promote the Score as the local station. For everything CBS does wrong, at least they realize that sports radio has to be a local format, at least in major markets. I look forward to them throwing that away so they can give a nation Doug Gottlieb.

When was Doug Gottlieb annointed as this great voice who's opinions just needed to be heard? He's a haircut passing as a broadcaster. I just don't get it.

When you start a sports network nobody asked for with people nobody wanted.

Did you hear his riff about Werth's home run proving that postseason baseball is "so easy a caveman could do it"? First thought: HEY HEY! Second thought: if Doug Gottlieb were standing in front of me, I would punch him in the face.

I agree he is the leader, mainly for financial reasons. However, I see the ratings reflecting his full time presence.

Plus not sure TB is going anywhere. All these guys are wired to talk about STUFF all day. TB goes nuts without this gig.

Actually if you have HD with AT&T U-verse, you get a number of the Fox Sports Nets. I DVR the show daily, and watch it if there is nothing else on TV that night. (Which, suprisingly, is becoming almost daily now.)

It isnt too early to add Steven Berger winning Scoresearch and getting his own show to the list of bad WSCR decisions.

The WORST move by far was breaking apart all the shows back in '99. Although it did produce B&B so maybe not.

i can only imagine what that's like. to give you an idea, roughly 5 years ago i was taking a few classes @ oakton comm college in des plaines (ARE YOU DOWN WITH O-C-C?!?!?!) and they had a bunch of speakers there to try and inspire us (mainly the youngins) to carpe diem and go forward and manifest destiny. one of the speakers was the intrepid RICK MORRISSEY.

i'll always remember morrissey entering with an entourage of 2-3 dudes with an aura that would render jesus an omega-male. he had this serious scowl that conveyed his prevalent thought: "what the fuck am i doing here with these losers?" --- the other 2-3 guys, presumably speakers unless morrissey has a few homies around whenever he's gotta deal with us proles, had body language that conveyed that morrissey was the lead dog.

he stood there taller than his homies, tall and dashing with a jet black trenchcoat spouting his statueworthy mug topped off with a meticulously styled (mainly-)salt-n-pepper mane.... and i was in awe. i was like "holy fucking shit, i'm about to walk by and be within five feet of RICK FUCKING MORRISSEY... i pray to god that i can master osmosis, if not whatever it is that those psychic vampires hannity reported on do......

the eye contact was brief, but it spoke volumes. once our eyes locked the alpha-dog mandate of "stop fucking looking at me you piece of shit" telepathically filled my head.... it was one of those "i'm going to stare hard @ you til you look away because you, like the world, ARE MY BITCH!!!!" looks... and i lament to report that rick's battle plan of establishing his dominance via the staredown worked.... once i realized that RICK FUCKING MORRISSEY WAS LOOKING AT ME, HOLY FUCK, I COULDN'T HANDLE IT.... I OVERLOADED. INSIDE, I FELT LIKE ONE OF THOSE NAZIS WHO JUST OPENED THE HOLY GRAIL AT THE END OF RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK. CLEARLY, I WASN'T PUT ON EARTH TO EVEN MASQUERADE AS A CONTEMPORARY OF A JOURNALISTIC LITERARY GIANT LIKE RICK MORRISSEY.... IT REMINDED ME OF MY PLACE IN LIFE, WHICH IS IMPORTANT.

i didn't have a chance to hear morrissey speak..... i wish i did. he's a magnanimous beacon of all that's right in the world, let alone sports/writing.... and he carries himself like the world champion defeater-of-life that he is. it was truly majestic..... and like the best things in life, it was fleeting.... just a touch, a taste, a little dab of fuel to propel your mind into the endlessly vast expanse of awe and wonder that comes when one ponders what it'd be like to live life as the Man, the myth, the legend.... RICK FUCKING MORRISSEY.

now, anyone who wasted a minute of their life reading this might wonder "why the fuck did i just read this?" and then go on to an instaREFERENDUM(tm) of me and my societal worth as a whole.... however, anyone who wasted a minute of their life reading this WILL wonder "what does this pointless rick morrissey non-story have to do with rick telander?"

two things: 1) if telander is the LEAD DOG over at the suntimes sports section, just imagine how spectacularly OMFG YES YES YES YES YES SHITKICKINGMCKICKSHITTINSON, ESQUIRE, ONCE YOU ASCEND TO THE APEX OF LIFE THAT IS SPENDING A DAY IN TELANDER'S SHOES, HOLY SHIT, YOU'LL FEAR THE ROBOTS WHO WANT TO TAKE YOUR PASTIME/LOVE/LIFE AWAY....... we can only DARE to imagine.

and 2) i'm 90-95% sure that telander was one of the 2-3 guys with morrissey.

TL;DR = MORAL OF THE STORY? ALL HAIL RICK FUCKING MORRISSEY.
