It's amazing how fucking dumb these owners are. The NHL always winds up with the worst ones, the ones who couldn't buy into the real leagues.

Lockout might be over, Bettman offered 50/50 revenue split contingent on full 82 game season starting November 1. Fehr to address media in a few minutes.

On the surface seems reasonable, obviously the devils in the details though. Being 50/50 it turns the PR tables on Fehr and the NHLPA

Very little to any concessions by NHL in terms of free agency etc. Expect this to be rejected, but hopefully it renews energy on negotiations

Gary Bettman Surprised By Popularity Of NHL Lockout

NEW YORK—As labor talks between team owners and the NHL Players’ Association enter their fifth straight week, league commissioner Gary Bettman announced Monday that he has been “blown away” by the ongoing lockout’s immense popularity. “There’s just a buzz about hockey right now that I don’t think we’ve ever seen before,” said Bettman, adding that the outpouring of support he has received for the continuing lack of NHL games has been “incredibly touching.” “We get calls every single day from people who are begging us to keep this thing going. People just can’t wait to see more regular season hockey games canceled. Frankly, this is the best thing that has ever happened to the NHL in terms of growing its appeal among sports fans.” Bettman confirmed that he hasn’t seen so much public enthusiasm about the sport since 2004, when a labor dispute forced the NHL to cancel the entire season.

So many prime alternatives for our eskimo friends to follow after the nhl cancels the season.

You think NBC Sports might be having second thoughts about signing an extension to carry the NHL right now?

I think there's a reason for it. NBC Sports Network would've had an NHL game on its air if there wasn't a lockout.

But the re run of 3 month old Olympic events would still probably pull a better rating than Panthers vs Blue Jackets

...which is why the "national" TV deal is basically just the Red Wings, Rangers, Flyers, Bruins, Penguins, and Blackhawks.

Anyway, this is exciting news. I've been so pro-labor this time around that I've started getting daily Yiddish newspapers from 1920 in my mailbox, but this is reasonable. The 50-50 split everyone said was the endgame, with free agency moved to from 7 or 27 to 8 or 28. As a fan of a team that grows 'em pretty well, I'll take that eighth year. Let's see.

According to Sun-Times/Blackhawks' writer Adam Jahns' Twitter, Blackhawks' captain Jonathan Toews calls the latest NHL proposal a "tactic" in hopes of swaying public opinion. That can't be good.

While NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman has confirmed the league has made 3 counter-proposals to the NHLPA, none of them appear good enough to end the lockout. Chances are better than even money now that the NHL will announce more cancellations in the wake of what appears to be more setbacks in the NHL labor front.

Not hardly. This lockout is extremely similar to the NBA's from last year. Most of the franchises are better off probably cancelling the entire season instead of taking millions in losses by having a season. There's probably only about 6-8 owners that want a deal done today.

If the NHL ends up cancelling the "Winter Classic", scheduled for Michigan Stadium between the Maple Leafs & Red Wings, might history repeat itself? No NHL at all this season, just like 2004-05?

I enjoy hockey but is it weird that I kind of want them to lose another season? Just for giggles.

The players just need to realize that in a lockout, they are going to lose.

Its not a total loss for the players. Europe and the KHL are paying a lot more than they used to.

According to TSN's Darren Dreger's Twitter, he says don't be surprised if the NHL responds to today's latest setback by announcing the cancellation of a "big chunk of games" as soon as tomorrow.

Yes, that is the right move to put pressure on the players. I think the owners just won the recent PR battle......

They won to stupid people. It's amazing how many people are saying "fuck the players" and such. Yeah, the guys who actually play suck. I'm a Jeremy Jacobs guy through and through. Idiots.

Well according to this board and the B&B show, the whole country is filled with stupid people. So the owners won this round.
