My DVR was cut off by my wife last night so I missed the last 20 minutes. Going to have
to wait until middle of the week to catch the rest. I am hoping more happened at the end
because besides the attack on the bar owner it was a pretty dry episode.

i think of the episode's theme as "the return of crime".

i enjoyed it thoroughly.

Antoine's band is the best storyline this season. Real funny scenes with them this week. I was convinced last season that the douchebag keyboard player was lying about his Katrina story. The show sets you up to loathe the dingleberry and then they go 180 you in the face with the picture his ex-girlfriend saw.

I was a bit apprehensive on the length...88 minutes. But I get it. And let me tell you, I was very satisfied. Especially with the last shots.

I thought of Mawmaw. She lost her house of 40 years. And these houses weren't great, they weren't suburban, and they weren't up to IMU standards. but they had character.

I remember my mawmaw's dog honey. we used to play around the back yard with her, little poodle. and when she died, it really hit us hard. we saw her burial in the backyard.

that house is gone. the yard, gone. the whole area, buried, and gone. mawmaw will live without that plot, and with very little money to show for it.

i really think this is a lot to think about when it comes to "treme". it's about the music, it's about the food, and it's about the culture.

but there is a reason they started this around katrina. it's about tradition. and a lot of that tradition was lost, and how it has to be reclaimed, as slow and steady as it goes. most of my family won't get to know that feeling. maybe some of it is for the good. but there's a part of them that died in that flood. we won't all feel it up here in the midwest, or the west, or the east coast. but when you lose 40 years, you've lost so much more than just wood, splinters, flooring. you've lost a home.

home is all new orleans is about, and "treme" has captured home like i've not seen in a long time. kudos.

I watched the whole second season. It was ok. It might be that I expect so much more because David Simon is involved. Many of the characters do no interest me at all (the cook, Melissa Leo's kid, and you're the man now dog and his dad) and I'm sick of the multiple five minute plus scenes of nothing but music.

all of zizou's complaints lead me to the following suggestion: just stop watching. the food, the music, and the conversation pieces are what make the show what it is. it's not for everybody. but it IS new orleans.

Damn Zack going all Danny Mac PTFB on me. I don't hate the show. It actually made me tolerate Jon Seda for a tiny bit.

This is correct. Wendell Pierce and the son of the Chief (Delmond Lambreaux) are the main two that aren't playing the instruments. There "play" is added in over the live music tracks. The violinist Lucia Micarelli is a player too. I have been going the Netflix route. Like Deadwood, the commentary versions are awesome. There is audio commentary (my favorite) and musical commentary (interesting, but doesn't work as well).

Additionally, all of the 2nd line action is done by the locals. The dancing and activities are not staged. People just doing what they do. I don't know if that includes jumping on cars, but the rest is people doing what they do.

W_Z gave what I believe very astute insight into the show and the reason it is developed and interwoven as it was done. Writer David Mills died of a brain aneurysm on set last year. I include a story from the Times Picayune that has a couple of great excerpts from Mills that describe what he was trying to accomplish in his writing, and his wondering how it would be perceived by the masses. Personally, I would say "Ya done good."

I am only up to the 5th show. The only wish I have is in some cases, the dialect misses for me. As an example, I love the Ladonna character and her mother. Ladonna's mannerisms are in my opinion perfect, but she lacks the New Orleans intonations that I miss. Wendell's baby momma is a native that had no experience in acting (Spike Lee pitched her for the show). Love how she does what she does.

I just find it odd that Anthony Bourdain has a recurring writing role on this show. While I wasn't wowed by the opener, I'm still hopeful they'll get somewhere interesting with all of these odd threads.

If I didn't like the characters so much on this show I likely wouldn't tune in every week.
It is pretty damn slow moving. Things could get interesting with Toni Bernette going after
that crooked cop. Is anyone else still hanging on to this series? not happy to see Albert
get diagnosed with cancer either.

I watched the season premeire, but haven't gotten to last week's episode, or last night's either. I'm just too busy right now, and this show is on the lower end of stuff I try to keep up with. The music on it is always great, but yeah, it is incredibly slow moving.
