Is scary good. I know the front 4 didn't do great today, but overall this defense is sick. Is Brian Urlacher the weakest link on this D?

Urlacher claims it's the best since he's been here. That sounds crazy, but good god, they've really been terrific this year. I haven't seen the numbers, but I'd be surprised if they're not the top-rated D so far.

Going by the eye test the '06 team is the only team with a chance to be better than them. By that same eye test SF is almost surely better this year but the Bears are probably top 3-5.

I haven't watched a ton of SF, but my assumption was that the Bears are, at worst, top 3.

ETA: the defense beat the Jags 14-3 today, for fuck's sake. That's ridiculous.

By the way, I was wondering, and they said on the radio: this is the first time in NFL history that two defensive teammates have scored touchdowns in consecutive games. Congrats to Briggs and Peanut.

For all the talk in recent years about how someday the Bears Defense will struggle when Urlacher can no longer play at a high level, this years Bears D is great while Brian is clearly nowhere near the player he used to be. While he certainly has value as the leader & signal caller on Defense, his skills are significantly diminished, yet the Defense is great.
Urlacher is in the last year of his contract & unless he is willing to take a big pay cut, we could be watching his last year with the beloved.

Batted Balls by a Devensive Lineman:
So how come in the stat crazy NFL,you can't find this stat next to a D-linesman name?

The Bears and a lot of other teams would benefit on cutting down of the quick slant,if their D_line would raise their hands. They are so cued in on getting a sack that's never going to happen with a quick slant pass.

Jimmy, between this and the Rose comments you are taking your meatballness to new heights.

What is wrong with stressing the batted ball to a Def. LM? Much like Lovie and his "Punch" ball technique.

I'm pretty sure they do. I thought that passes defended (PD) was any pass that a defense player knocked away. Maybe I'm wrong...

And it's defensive with an F
