What makes you think it wasn't Spaulding that drank $100 worth of booze?

She is a smart enough girl to put a flask or three in her purse and drink soda all night.

I don't think Spaulding could drink $100 of water without getting wasted.

separate checks (pre order) = frowned upon.
paying with multiple credit cards = acceptable.

Sure, if you invite another couple out and want to treat them, fine. But, to pick up the tab for 4 couples that you routinely go out with? Not for me. I think the debtor/lender relationship spoiler applies-"crap, now we have to pay next time, and what if there are 6 couples next time, etc"

I was thinking just one couple.

I don't have enough friends that I would ever have to worry about paying for 4-6 couples.  :| :(

Really? Not in my world (repulsively ugly, small-town, backwoods, twisted as it may be). Let them keep track of the tabs, and tip well for a job well done.

I guess my kids are right, my coolness factor is negative.

Which is really pretty stupid. It costs them $ to run credit cards. It doesn't cost them anything except some paper to print multiple checks.

It takes them longer to data entry and screws up the computer system b/c they have two "tables" at the same "table."

Much easier for them to just cut the bill in half at the end, even if it costs them another $0.89 to do so.

I don't think "cool" really has anything to do with it. It's just custom. For example, in a lot of places I've been in the South, the servers will always ask if the guests would like separate checks. This is something that generally isn't done in Chicago. I wouldn't really put a value on it. When in Rome...

Not that we are big time or anything but I tell my servers to ask only if there are four couples or more.
I mean its pretty darn easy to split a bill between three couples :D
And from experiance the only time people complain is when there is that one guy who is always
in the bathroom or smoking when its his turn to buy a round all f'n night long. We all got friends like that :drunken:

Isn't that the truth? It's always the same guy that is the last one to buy a round. Sometimes you go out for a few beers and there's five or six guys and it may never even get to his round. The guy in my group like that, I figure he has saved nearly six figures over the last 30 years.

In this day and age of penicillin, the best practice is to arrive at any party empty handed and simply pick off the wounded soldiers by sneaking sips from glasses at any opportunity.

Yep. You should seen this guy rummaging thru the trash cans at Gleneagles on Saturday. He was trashed by about the 5th hole!

I believe I hurt feelings on this board with a similar discussion about 5 years ago.

Whatever you bring to a party, stays at the party...unless they force you to take the kids back.

The whole bill thing can be a little tricky. I'm not big on doing couples things so that is rare for me. I don't mind doing the Panther thing if I am out with my friends and it isn't a "cold tower appetizer" type of night.

Why is spaulding spending time on this question? I cannot remember a woman EVER taking a check in a mixed group dynamic at dinner and I'm sure she polishes off a bottle of scotch after bringing a sixer of skunked lite to a house party.

We went with another couple to a friends house Saturday. 6 adults 6 kids. I was told to bring drinks. I brought a 12 pk of fall beer, a 6pk of cider, a bottle of wine, and a pack of Capri sun. The 12 pk was gone, I had 2 ciders and somebody else tried one, the wine was not opened. It wasn't about money or what I brought. It was me sitting around at 10 last night thinking, man I wish I had those 3 ciders or bottle of wine.

I do not eat pizza so I brought my dinner. My husband and son were at hockey and came later. They had to bring another pizza because the hostess under ordered. No biggie. They are always more than generous and have sponsored me many times. I got the feeling they were being cautious with the pizzas though. Again something I was just thinking about while being sad I had no booze last night.

Hey listen you little dick with ears, I can pick up the check. I spend that money my husband makes like there is no tomorrow! You and your people are known for going to the bathroom when that check is coming.

I think I read somewhere that if you aren't successful after the first couple of times then you need to find a different program.

So 6 adults couldn't even polish off 18 (I'm assuming 12oz) bottles? Must be a real rowdy crowd you hang out with if they can knock back those Capri Suns in 1 night....
