ABC7 Investigative Reporter Chuck Goudie is also part of tonight's "30 For 30" on Ben Wilson. Shameless plug and cross promotion aside, considering the fact ESPN & ABC7 are units of the Walt Disney Company, Goudie looked a lot younger in this documentary than he does now.

I couldn't agree more. At least SHARK has jumped on my hating ESPN bandwagon.

I enjoyed it as much as you can watching the story of a promising life snuffed out. I found it very interesting
they got the point of view of the shooter at the end. I remember playing summer league ball
against a lot of CPS schools. We usually got our asses handed to us but it was great competition. Would
have loved to see the Flying Illini with him on the club. He would have been an upperclassman at that
point.

Yeah I enjoyed the story of the shooter as well. I am glad they included that part. Guy has had a tough go of it, but good he has made something of his life and is using his experiences to help out others.

How often have we seen top players in the country as high school kids amount to nothing as pros? Len Bias had a proving ground in the top conference in college basketball but even for him there was no promise of success.

Nothing. It didn't change the lives of his friends and family. It didn't change our city's violence problem. It certainly didn't change the vomitous existence of the basketball street pimp industry.

The only discernable changes I could see from the incident were the way the city handles trauma care (and that was due more to a seven figure settlement than the actual shooting) and the life of the shooter.

The shooter was the only one who seems to have matured from the incident.

Did Wilson's mom really become a social activist after the event. It seemed to me she stuck around until her suit settled and then left for Mississippi. I don't blame her. I don't think I would recover from my child being killed.

The last scene where his friends were dreaming of the lost possibility of being his professional enterouge was striking. There were almost 700 murders in the city that year. I doubt any of them produced the extended emoting.

This really is a topic in Bernstien's wheelhouse and I hope he devotes a proper amount of time to it.

Yeah good points. I guess the friends part didn't bother me as much because that is just reality of the world. They were at least his friends and with him and his family before the event. Jackson just swoops in any time he can get some attention and make it seem like he is some long lost family friend.
