A guy who is ranked no better than 20th in all major qb statistical categories is not going to be mentioned anywhere near the mvp discussion regardless of team (defensive) success.

20th in stats, 1st in our hearts.

The early front runners gotta be Rodgers and RGIII.

I'll throw another vote for RG III, but can he win if his team is below .500 at the end?
JJ Watt should be on the list, as should Percy Harvin.

Discount Double Check, Matty Ice, and Peyton can get a vote too.

Tom Brady is not worthy at this point.

I will strip punch your nutsack.

I was being somewhat facetious what I said this...

Quote:
Chicago Bears cornerback Charles Tillman is getting some national recognition for his lockdown performance Monday night against the Detroit Lions. Not only has the NFL named him its NFC defensive player of the week, but ESPN.com's Mike Sando has included Tillman for the first time in his weekly MVP Watch post.

The chances of a cornerback winning the MVP, Tillman or anyone else, are remote. And we've already noted on several occasions how well fellow Bears cornerback Tim Jennings is playing. But the Bears know their personnel best. And when it came time to match someone on the Lions' Calvin Johnson, there was no hesitation who that would be.

Tillman got some help from the Bears' safeties, of course, but in the end Johnson caught only three of the 11 passes the Lions threw his way. It was only the third time in 24 games that Johnson had been held under four catches. Tillman also forced another two fumbles, bringing his total to three during a season in which he also has two interception returns for touchdowns.

You could make an argument for several Bears defenders in this context, including Jennings and linebacker Lance Briggs. No one stands out dramatically from the others. But I'm glad to see that people are realizing, albeit late in his career, that Tillman is one of the NFL's top defenders.

Ok the Tillman love is getting a bit ridiculous. He is possibly going from very underrated to really overrated in less than 5 weeks.

Tillman plays well against MEgatron for some reason. Overall he isnt that great, he punches the ball out. Way to go. Where else could they find someone else to fly in after blowing their coverage and punch at a ball while 2 other guys make a tackle.

He isn't an MVP, but he's not as mediocre as you make him sound either.

The same thing happened last season. Everyone was licking his balls after a game against the Lions and then he went back to being just a guy again.

I thought it was the Charger game where he shut down Vincent Jackson.

Victor Cruz deserves some consideration. Although the NFL never gives the MVP to WRs. I think Jerry Rice was the last one to get it. Maybe the only one.

With the running game being eliminated from the NFL, the MVP pretty much means best QB.

Did I hear Boers correctly yesterday? I thought he asked Hub if Eli currently was the best QB in the league...to which Hub seemingly agreed. :?

He's in the conversation. He just has too many bad games. He's not as consistently great as Rodgers, Brees, or Brady. Still, it's not a crazy thought.

It is crazy to say he is 1st (IMO) because it's really not that close.
Eli
Completion: 63.8% (12th)
TD/Int: 12/7 (7th total TDs)
QB Rating: 92.5 (10th)

ARod
Completion: 69.8% (2nd)
TD/Int: 19/4 (1st)
QB Rating: 109.6 (1st)

If regular season stats are all that matters then Tony Romo is one of the best QBs in NFL history.

If the Broncos make the playoffs, it might be Peyton. He's 1st in DVOA and that roster blows.
