Well, any name is fair game at this point, even if he has no Cub connections. I know for a fact ex-White Sox manager Jeff Torborg has done plenty of TV work. Ask Cardinals' radio voice and network veteran John Rooney.

Yep, that's who I got him confused with.

Doug Glanville seems like a good candidate.

I thought this was a contest to guess who actually got the job- if it is a wish list, THEN I WANT BIGFAN IN THE BOOTH!!!CSFMB REPRESENT!!!!

Whoops, kinda Panthro there, sorry.

Girardi will probably be looking for work later tonight, he's a possibility. Since I listen to more games than i watch, moving Moreland off radio for a quality replacement is a great plan. Soup Campbell was PBP, wasn't he? No need for 2 PBP voices in either booth. I wonder what Barry Foote is up to these days.....

I'd love Campbell, if it were 2001. He's 70 years old now.

My guess: Sutcliffe

This might sound out there...would the Cubs consider moving Keith Moreland over to TV and pair Kerry Wood with Pat Hughes on radio...That would give Wood to get his feet wet doing broadcasting.

Please don't wish this upon Cubs fans. 100+ years of suffering is enough. Kerry Wood has the personality of drying wallpaper.

And yet he'd probably only be slightly worse than Moreland.

It will be a very popular ex Cub or someone with a pretty big name. That eliminates Scanlan. WHile he is an Ex Cub I think 99 percent of fans are meh on him.

I predict Rick Sutcliffe and Todd Hollandsworth who I think could do a good job filling in when Sutcliffe has a national commitment. And it would be a chance for him to get some exposure for a year to two to get a full time broadcast job somewhere else.

I by the way would love to see Glanville. I'm of the thinking that if the commisioners office had the brains of a tse tse fly he'd have some position in the front office of the game. But I don't think he's a big enough name right now.

They have to replace Brenly with a name or a popular ex Cub.

Kerry Wood actually does have a good personality. He's really grown into it the past few years.

Personally I never thought of this idea. But I would too. But I think the Cubs are going to go with a real popular former player or an established broadcast name.

Maybe he could be the fill in if Sutcliffe takes the job and Sut has other commitments. He might be interested in it to get his foot in the broadcast door. Being a fill in for Sutcliffe when Sut is on ESPN or such would be a great oppurtunity for someone who wants to get his broadcast carer started.

Sutcliffe just fills both bills. He is an extremely popular ex Cub and has a name in the broadcast booth.

According to today's Sun-Times, the perceived frontrunner for the Cubs' TV analyst job wasn't a Cub for very long during his playing days. That former Cub I'm referring is currently part of the "MLB on FOX" pregame crew for the World Series alongside White Sox FA A.J. Pierzynski, MLB Network's Harold Reynolds & host Matt Vasgersian.

The S-T's Gordon Wittenmyer says that "MLB on FOX" analyst Eric Karros met with Cubs' President of Business Operations Crane Kenney before the World Series opened this week. "I absolutely have interest," said Karros. He's not alone. ESPN analyst and another ex-Cub in Rick Sutcliffe, along with Comcast SportsNet Cubs' studio analyst Todd Hollandsworth have also talked to the team about the opening.

Especially with Crane Kenney sticking his nose in the negotiations.

Jimmy used to work with Kevin Matthews, no longer working in Chicago radio, let alone Grand Rapids, MI for that matter. Kev was recently a victim of corporate cutbacks by Cumulus Media, parent company of 89 WLS-AM & 94.7 WLS-FM here in Chicago, and parent company of WLAV-FM, the classic rocker Kev recently did morning drive in Grand Rapids.

Just hire Bernsy to do it in the Vin Scully voice.

How is Karros the perceived front runner when two other people had already been interviewed? Wouldn't that just make him one of three to be interviewed so far?

BC, that's according to the Sun-Times' Gordon Wittenmyer, who is a LOT closer to this story, not to mention Eric Karros than we are. Wittenmyer added in his story today that Karros has the freedom to pursue this job. I don't know what he meant by that, let alone where Karros REALLY is behind Tim McCarver on the "MLB on FOX" depth chart.

Karros struck me as a guy who worked a little too hard to ingratiate himself with the Cubs fanbase, considering he was just a platoon player for one year. The whole Captain Video thing, I dunno. As a broadcaster, he's pretty vanilla, but it's Fox, so everyone is either pretty vanilla or straight-up dumb. I should like to think we can do better. I thought we could've done better than Failed Push-Button Manager Bob Brenly when he came over in 2005, and for the first year or two I was right, but then he grew into Hip Dad Bob Brenly and he worked out just fine, so just ignore me (eventually).

I disagree. Any of these candidates would be getting at least a three-year deal. I believe I heard Plesac just signed a five-year with the MLB Network.

The rumors....not a contract. They are just dicking around until Grace gets his trial and sentence over with. It all should be done before pitchers and catchers report.

I wish I had your optimism on this deal. Not happening. Also, are they putting him in the booth fresh out the can? No way. You need a cooling off period.

He just has to go public when he finds god in tent city and then he is a great recovery and reclamation story.

I doubt it happens but he is the only personality available that would make it a good listen. I don't want to hear Karros or Plesac or any of the even worse options.
