I like your style and agree with your premise, but I'd rather have Jordy Nelson than Brandon Marshall.

They did none of these today and it showed.

Can we stop comparing Cutler to Rodgers, Rodgers is maybe the best QB in the game, Cutler is not. Everyone knows that lets move on.

But Christ, in the first half the guy at one point had 8 dropbacks and got sacked 4 times. He barely had time to set his feet before he was hit.

When the Bears were down 19-7, and when the line finally gives Cutler sometime, Cutler goes 13-15 130 yards and a TD.

Cutler stepped up at crunch time, yet reading this board you would think Cutler lost game.

Agreed. Evaluation of Cutler should exclude series and/or quarters where he has played awful.

And credit should be given when he steps up his play when the Bears are behind and helps lead the Bears to a comeback vicotry.

No, credit should not be given when he has to come back against the 1-5 Carolina Panthers because his suckage was the reason such a comeback was necessary, especially when a healthy dab of that comeback was 1.) a defensive touchdown and 2.) Ron Rivera having an IQ of 57

Only reason I use Rodgers as the comparison is when people say that Cutler doesnt have time to throw the ball and thats why he's ineffective its bullshit. Rodgers manages to get it done despite being sacked more and with no run game to help take the heat off. There's no reason why an offense with as good as a qb that Cutler is supposed to be should spent a good majority of each game in suck city, largely due to his ineffective play despite all the weapons he now has. Sorry but Im just not very impressed with a 9 td pass against 8 int season from one as great as Cutler is.

It can't go both ways. Cutler was integral in putting 10 points on the board with less than 10 minutes to play in the game. He was awful for the better part of 3 quarters, but made plays and throws when they mattered most. Cutler was not alone in sucking-- Marshall, Hester, Spaeth all had key drops. And don't forget about the human turnstyle that is Gabe Carimi. They won the game and that's all that matters. Cutler and the rest of the offense stepped up in crunch time.

Rodgers has been sacked three more times, but Rodgers has also thrown about 80 more times. In terms of percentage Cutler has been sacked at a higher rate.

So it was solely Cutler's suckage is the reason that the Bears were down, not the piss poor blocking, the three drops (Spaeth, Marshall, Hester), or anything like that.

Got it.

It wasn't solely Cutler's suckage, but it largely was, yes.

He has basically put up Rex Grossman numbers this season despite having the wr everyone said would make him awesome, a solid run game, and maybe the easiest schedule in the NFL. Thank God for a defense that is hanging on for dear life.

But that's the same argument that says Kyle Orton is an elite quarterback.

And the Bears still have a one of the worst past blocking offensive lines in the game. Anyone expecting the Bears offense to put up 30 points a game, when you have to max protect a large portion of the game, is fooling themselves.

Why shouldn't the defense carry the Bears. In other threads, there is talk about having 3 of 4 future hall of famers on defense. How many future HOF are on the offense. The defense should carry the team.

JOrr, who in this thread said Cutler is an elite QB? Who said he played like one yesterday? For the most part, everybody is saying he played like shit except for the last 10 minutes or so of the game. He wasn't alone in playing like shit, because pretty much the whole offense was awful right along with him.

All I said was that if Cutler is gonna take crap for being bad (and he was), then he needs to be given a slight tip of the cap for making plays in the 4th quarter as he was leading his team to scoring 10 points.

He plays like shit a lot though. We've gone from him being one of the top five quarterbacks in the league (at least in skills) to a guy who we just don't want to lose games.

Not if the Bears plan on winning a Super Bowl. Since 2000, only five teams have earned a trip to the Super Bowl with average QBs (Grossman, Hasselbeck, Delhomme, Johnson and Gannon). Tampa Bay being the only outlier to win the Lombardi with a game manager in 2003. Recently speaking, the past 5 years both teams playing in the Super Bowl started "elite" quarterbacks (Eli, Brady, Brees, Peyton, Warner). Once the playoffs start the Tony Romos and Blaine Gabberts of the NFL world aren't around to throw pick-6s.

The talk of the offense needing more time to gel is bunk. A whole off-season, training camp and 7 games with the toughest scoring defense being the 12th ranked Packers is plenty of time. The offense clearly isn't championship caliber and will be the downfall of the Bears.

I just think excuse time is over for Cutler. In NFL history, is there a single great quarterback who played like shit because of a lousy offensive line?

Off the top of my head Kurt Warner with the Giants is the only one that comes to mind recently. That was kinda different because people thought he was done.

Who made excuses yesterday? Cutler was not good. The Oline was not good. There were at least 5 key drops. Forte played pretty decent, but from behind they had to throw and couldn't use him a lot. All of the above is true. That is pretty much what people are saying.

I'm happy the team found a way to win when they were pretty much dominated in all areas on the field and on the stat sheet.

Eli wasn't an elite QB before he won his first SB. Look at the number of points the Giants gave up during those two SB runs, they kept the Giants in every game. Manning's career passer rating was below 80 when he won his first SB. His career passer rating is still below Cutler's and below the rating Cutler put up yesterday.

The offense needs to get better, definitely, including Cutler. But if you think you can plug in any QB and this offense suddenly becomes a lot better, well then we have to disagree.

Typical Lovie offense.

If the D is good and doesn't have injuries, the Bears go to the playoffs. If the D has injuries and sucks, the Bears go 6-10. Its the story of Lovie's coaching career. That being said, this is still the best offense he has had since the juggernaut Grossman offense of the SB year.... which really isn't saying much.

It is really strange. There are a lot of smart Bears fans that just can't seem to stop making excuses for the guy. From the sacks to the turnovers he is responsible for a lot of them. He makes stupid decisions on the football field and then he's the first to get pissed when someone else does it. Every time you turn around he's showing up a teammate after they make a mistake.

I thought the same thing yesterday, when he spiked the ball in disgust after a false start.

You gotta love Bear fans who cant stop bitching, moaning & complaining about the 6-1 Bears. So Cutler is a hot & cold QB who isn't an elite top 5 QB. Is Jay a petulant punk? Yup...he sure is. The NFL has changed & the days of players & teams consistently dominating the league are long gone. Great players like Ray Rice, Calvin Johnson, & many others are great one week, & terrible the next. It isn't only Jay.

Enjoy the Bears ride towards the NFC championship matchup -vs- Harbaugh & the Niners.

Cutler is streaky for sure, but always is hot in the 2nd half. Cutler leads the NFL with a 132 rating in the 4th quarter this year, and is second behind only Peyton Manning with a 103 rating in the 2nd half.
