All kids who show up on October 3rd receive a voucher for a free pair of Nikes.

The federal government bases there educational aid on the number of kids in attendance on that day, not the first day of school as Chas said.

In this case the article is very similiar to the Walgreens issue with the gift cards accept two guys are giving away the shoes.

He doesn't respond to me because he got sick of getting destroyed. He decided that his personal crusade was going to be "calling me out on all my bullshit". When he realized that he was the one that was full of shit, and he was not up to the task, he ran away.

I have low grade dyslexia
Effects my spelling. One of the reason I use Firefox,they have the best spell check.
In grade school nuns tried to fix it the same way they tried to fix my messed up handwriting. Beating me repeatedly with steel rulers.
My Mother is left handed I am a righty.So I hold the pen and write like a lefty,my handwriting is atrocious.

I didn't read the article and I'm not from Michigan, but I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that 1st day attendance is not what the federal government bases it's funding on in Detroit.

It is one of the drivers. If you know any firemen in Chicago ask them what they do on first day of school. if they are not on duty in the house,ie day off. They come in are given a list of houses that have kids signed up for public svhools and have to go door to door knocking reminding them to go to school that day.

1. That's Chicago, not Detroit. You claimed to have inside knowledge about the shoe program in Detroit.
2. That would be state funding, not federal. Besides, in every district in Illinois, state and federal funding are not the primary source of education dollars. I can hook you up with somebody from this board that sits on a school board if you'd like more details on this.
3. So everyone pitching in to help get kids to school is suddenly a bad thing. Am I reading this correctly? That's your angle, right? It's a bad thing that "firemen" help to get kids to school on the first day.

I am not saying it is a bad idea. It is bullshit that they got to pay firemen overtime to do something that the parents should be doing anyway. I got thrown out of the house to go to school everyday until I graduated High school.
It is bullshit they got to be bribed. What about the ids who live in good areas with good parent? They do not send the firemen there to knock on doors.
