Brilliant move.

Angels dumping lots of salary this off-season.

I love this deal. Marmol is wildly inconsistent and a plus closer is a luxury the Cubs don't need. Plus Haren is on a contract year so they can trade him if he blows. Garza...Haren....Smardz.....Dumpster(you know he will come back)....that's....not terrible? Go Cubs Go!!!!!!!!!!!!

There's talk of the Angels including money. I absolutely love this deal. If he's healthy, Haren can eat about 80-100 innings and get flipped at the deadline. At 32, I'm not completely opposed to a three year deal, should they decide it makes sense.

Hang on everybody. D-bag Kaplan said that he called 2 sources and the deal is not done. Still working out financials.

Which means the deal is done.

No way I go 3 years. He is a 1 yr trade at the deadline guy unless they are miraculously contending.

I'd absolutely prefer the trade option.

Assuming the Cubs bring Dempster back, their rotation isn't too bad. Actually appears to be pretty respectable on paper.

That's why games aren't played on paper. They're played inside televisions.

I still don't think Dempster comes back.

He'll be back. Then hopefully trade him again at the deadline.

Very nice move and any money include is a plus. Marmol wore out his welcome and was wildly inconsistent except when he was consistently terrible. The rotation looks very serviceable now with Garza, Shark, Haren, Wood and ?

Cubs killed the deal supposedly. I'm okay with this.

I thought this was a great trade for the Cubs and not sure why the Angels would do it. I guess they have until 11:00pm to decide on Haren's $15.5M option. It may not be dead yet.

The deal is dead. The Angels insisted on the Cubs pulling off a trade for Kenny Williams Jr and including him in the deal, but the Rockies turned down the Cubs offer of Baez, Alomar and Soler so that was that.
