I didnt hear exactly what he said, but it sounds like he said something about "Better planning" ? As in dont have kids during the season and the "I have kids, you don't " crowd came running to the podium with the "I would take off from work"...etc etc..

The difference is that you dont work 16 times a year for millions of dollars.

If I was having a kid and worked 200+ days a year, as a normal job for $00K a year, no doubt I leave the job for the birth of my kid.

I know the PC answer is that Tillman should go attend the birth, but lets ask this question. if it was the Super Bowl, would Tillman miss that game for the birth of his child????

So, was Florio saying that Tillman should have planned the pregnancy/birth timing better?

If so - is he an idiot? There are people that try for years and years and years and never get pregnant. There are people who seemingly try once, BAM! Baby.

I've never met anyone that has ever planned to, and therefore successfully "planned" when they will have a baby.

Essentially yes thats what he said. You know what months your season is in and approx how long it will run, take some measures to ensure you wont be missing time during those months for something that is preventable. This will be Tillman's 4th child as well.

What does the fact that other people cant get pregnant have to do with his poor planning?

once again, I ask if this was the Super Bowl, does he play if the wife goes into Labor at 3 PM? I think so

My wife was working in a school when we had my daughter. We planned it out so it would be a summer birth, so as not to disrupt my wife's work schedule. The math isn't really that hard to decipher.

That said, my daughter was born 5 weeks premature in May...

You can plan for it, but only so much.

100% Agreed.

And his 16 times a year statement is being taken out of context. No one would suggest he shouldn't miss a practice, a minicamp, or some random workout. But as a million dollar per-year professional, he has 16 performances a year that he should attend.

Charles' daughter Tiana was born needing a heart transplant, which she got. It changes one's priorities. Considering what was happening for Tillman 9 months ago (Honolulu) and that he performs one day a week, I think some thought or planning went into this.

As a father of a daughter who is a transplant recipient (kidney) I hope all goes well and that mothers and baby will be fine. As a Bears fan I hope the birth will come Friday or Tuesday.

I'm surprised they aren't inducing labor on Friday.

Gonna be the Bears Monday to end all Bears Mondays if Houston wins by exploiting a sans-Tillman secondary. Gird yr loins.

I don't have kids, but if I did I would spend the day of their birth playing football.

This is the way I saw it. And some of the other sports stuff I heard on radio doesn't fit. With all the other major sports having 162 or 82 games missing 1/16th is more of an impact.

Doctors regularly induce so that the child is not born on a weekend. I really don't understand the issue from Peanut's perspective.

If you want things to happen naturally go out in the field and have some town elder act as a mid wife. See how much you like naturally.

He should be able to do whatever the hell he wants, but also not get paid if he doesn't play.

Induced labor isn't all that much fun from what I've observed. Or maybe they should slice her open and take the baby out so that Bears fans aren't inconvenienced.

I see. So you're on record as saying that couples can reliably plan on when to have a baby.

Of course, you're wrong. But at least you post it openly.

Depends on what you mean by reliably, and how big the window is for "when." If your window is 7 months, yeah, you can pretty fucking reliably manage to hit that window.

Actually, many many people can't.

If it was easy to plan/schedule, why would any husband anywhere ever need to miss work? Every single profession has time off of work. They should all just plan their babies at the right time.

Florio sounds like a guy that's making stupid statement to get some publicity.

Most people do not have a 7 month offseason. It's a big difference trying to hit a 2 week window, and a 7 month window. It's surprising I have to explain this to you.

I know lots and lots of people who have had a hard time getting pregnant, been unable to get pregnant, had "surprise" pregnancies, or other things that would fall into the "weren't able to schedule" their pregnancies.

I for one would like to congratulate Peanut for scheduling all of his other babies at the appropriate times and being able to avoid the scorn of a MITC, MD-OBGYN.

As a woman ages, it usually gets a bit harder to conceive.

You better run that by MITC first. He probably disagrees.

It's OK spanky. I'll translate your diversion post about being called an idiot into "oh, I didn't read your whole original post and therefore didn't realize that you were actually partially supporting my argument."

We were trying to hit a 3 month window. We would have been successful had there not been complications. Nature can and will interfere with the best of plans.

Is it your position that attempting to hit a 7 month window is unobtainable for "most" people?

EDIT: The above should not be interpreted as me supporting those who say Tillman should play if his wife goes into labor. He should be with his wife.
