I think I have posted this in the past, sure the neurologist cousin and lawyer brother get all the praise from grandma at family parties but each of them would trade their existence for Dan's in a heartbeat. No competitve graduate school to endure. No slavish hours as a junior in your field. No night and weekend work. No preparation. 4 hours per day at $250-500K per year.
I'd agree with much of this, but the neurologist has a significantly higher degree of job security and once he got into medical school, a significantly higher chance of reaching his goal. I consider where Bernstein has gotten to be far more impressive than someone becoming a doctor.

Bernstein is one stupid executive who wants to turn the Score into a Spanish news station from unemployment.

You guys are operating under the premise that Dan doesn't have a host (as it were) of connections and advocates and would suddenly become completely unmoored with one false move. You don't do the terrible shows he's been doing over the last six months without the ironclad, bet-the-mortgage knowledge that you're set for life.

Where would he go? If ESPN couldn't handle Danny Mac, how would they handle Bernstein? Also, Bernstein is constantly ripping ESPN. I doubt he'd be welcomed there.

That's it for sports talk in Chicago.

National jobs are tough to get. He'd be looking at a situation like North, who is working his way up to getting a national show.

Of course he's got connections, but connections only matter if there are jobs available.

So, CBS sports radio is out, ESPN is out. Yahoo Sports Radio is pretty full right now. I guess that leaves Fox Sports radio with North.

What I meant was that he would be much more low-maintenance than Mac such that he wouldn't have to be "handled." Mac has actually made enemies, not just bullied his inferiors.

Oh, but Bernstein hates ESPN. They know this. He's a terrible fit for ESPN.

That's the tough part for Bernstein. What makes him good at CBS limits his career options significantly.

I'm sure Dan could be paid enough to not hate ESPN, I'm sure he could be made to "love" TeBow. I just doubt ESPN would be willing to spend the money that such a task would require.

Mac hated ESPN until he went there.

If for some reason he ever needed to go there, he'd be welcomed with open arms and open checkbook.

Bern$tine could be coaxed out of his anti-ESPN ways.

He would change if ESPN 1000 threw money at him. Or at least he would tell them that he'd change. At the end of the day, Bernstein will do what it takes to maintain his comfortable life style.

I just don't think ESPN would hire him. Look at their current guys. They don't want to hire a Bernstein-type cuz they do just fine with their vanilla, say-nothing guys. If they wanted a guy with fangs, they would have hired him at that station. They don't and they won't. It's not like Bernstein would significantly change their profit margin. And they're not gonna take his word that he would change. Cuz once he signs the deal, they're at his mercy.

ESPN Management: Hey Bernstein, could ya get off the Penn State topic and not say "Child Rape" so much. It upsets are listeners and the people in Bristol liked Joe Paterno. Take an easy on him. He'd dead.

Bernstein: Bite me. (Holds up his 3-year contract)

ESPN Management:

The interview would be over as soon as they asked him "Will you talk a lot about Penn State? Will you talk a lot about concussions?". That doesn't fly very well at ESPN. They tell you what to talk about.

Right. And he'd be right in lockstep with that.

He would adapt.

You can't be a national guy who spends his time reading articles from off-beat internet sports sites.

Also, yesterday the grammar nazi made the two following statements when ripping on callers:

"Neither. It's both" and "You don't represent anyone. You represent yourself"

What a bozo.

He wouldn't rip ESPN. That's obvious. But even if he went half throttle on his other stuff, that would still be too much for ESPN 1000. And I don't think Bernstein could go more than half throttle.

ESPN wants their boys to be neutered before they sign them. They don't want the aggressive types.

For the love of God, look at them!!! They're all starting to look like women.

These are always fun: Tiny looks like Rosie O'Donnell's older, gayer cousin, Carmen and his widow's peak look like Paul Ryan on the verge of water intoxication, Jurko needs some teeth, Waddle looks like a halfway presentable human, and Silvy looks like Nick Brody if Nick Brody went full 'tard.

As for me, my mom says I'm perfectly handsome.

If ESPN is about defending the interests of billionaires and corporations while telling people what they should think and whom they should like, then Dan's a better fit for the Booyahs than any of you are giving him credit for.

True. But they like to talk about the nice things. Bernstein wants to talk about the evils of sports. They don't want that.

I know B&B beat CJH, but I don't think it's by a huge margin. CJH hold their own. So why take a risk with Bernstein. For what? How much more money would he make their afternoon show? Not enough to hire him.

I think BernSTEIN ripping ESPN is part of B&B's bunker mentality schtick of "B&B vs. [insert enemic du jour]." It also gives him a chance to bad mouth their competitor down the dial.

I can see him sitting at a desk on set at ESPN, his feet dangling inches above the floor, waiting to chime in with his 0.02 worth.

What happened to his gig of filling in for Dan Patrick?

Weren't we told by Mitch Rosen and B&B that Goff was a rising star in the sports media buisness as he departed to Atlanta? You think ESPN 1000 ever considered him? No. He's a lesser version of Bernstein of whom they could have gotten for less than half of Bernstein's price.

I'm telling you, ESPN 1000 will never hire Bernstein or any of his soldiers.

That's dumb.

But I'll dismiss it by raising this point: If I'm Jason and I have a choice between going to ESPN and being a part-time fill-in, or going to Atlanta to host my own evening show, I'm picking the latter. He would've been stupid to consider anything else.

I don't know who broadcasts his show now. I saw a clip of it over the weekend on NBC Sunday night before the Bears game. Dan Patrick and a bunch of guys much younger than him horsing around in a totally hetero way in their studio with a basketball hoop and a bunch of SI swimsuit photos on the wall. It looked kind of silly, like he's desperately trying to cling to his youth.

I suspect Mac was waiting outside with an armful of mini helmets and his Big Green Egg.

Yeah, I believe Patrick may have gone to another media conglomerate. But Bernstein's fill-ins for Patrick were proof that the stuff that he does daily here, are things that can be turned on and off at his will. He was a different host on the national shows, and the shows were better than what he's doing with Terry.

I agree with that. You always take the full time gig with your name on the show over the part time gig (He had part time shows at the Score anyway). I'm just saying ESPN 1000 would never consider Bernsetin or his disciples. They don't want "Fuck You" radio. I don't think I'm saying anything that controversial. You've heard the type of radio that ESPN does. You know I'm right. No need to fight me on this one.

And what I'm saying is Bernstein is not genetically-programmed to do "Fuck you" radio. He does it now because he can and doesn't really care. He didn't do it when he hosted the Dan Patrick shows. It's something he can control and would if he had to.

I don't know if it would've been stupid. It seems like taking an ESPN job would've been less risk/less reward. But Goff essentially bet on himself by starting over(sort of) in Atlanta. That's why I admired the move by him.

He can do it in small quantities, but it's who he is now.

When he's hosting The Dan Bernstein Show on ESPN national radio and some guy from Penn State calls up saying that Joe Paterno did nothing wrong do you think he's going to be like "Thanks for your call. I politely disagree"?
