Out of the places I've lived recently(Chicago, Louisiana, Texas, Missouri, North Dakota), Chicago is easily last in terms of strangers being nice and welcoming.

Yes. I'm so accustomed to the coldness of strangers in Chicago (I'm the same way unfortunately) that when I went to Memphis and saw how friendly people were, I legitimately felt uncomfortable. Like, "Are these people doing some sort of bit? Are they fucking with me?" Sad but true.

Stopped at a Starbucks in Memphis on a family vacation in '05. Impossibly cute girl asked "what would you like, sweetheart?" and I just about melted into a puddle right then and there. I don't remember what I ordered. I think it was "I'll a there's a uh an, ah, uh, flibbidabluh."

My main experience with large metropolitain cities outside of Chicago are east coast (NYC, Philly, D.C. and Boston). I guess that's a low bar for Chicago to clear.

People from around Chicago are acceptably friendly. People from Wisconsin are overly solicitous to the point of discomfort.

No, I get it .... what he's saying isn't wrong, it's just he gets his Irish up sitting behind the microphone but doesn't actually ever do any heavy lifting .... he asks his incisive questions and makes his pointed critiques in a rhetorical fashion, but never has any intention whatsoever of confronting the issues and the persons that he rails against.

What with the gravity of the situation, I'm half-surprised Dan isn't informing Hunter what his opinion should be instead of, as he's doing, just sitting there listening (supposedly).

good call.... he just got his talking points in with hunter to the point where hunter had to start off with "yeah." lamentably, we know that today's show programmed itself once we heard that sanctimonious indignation leading to PLAY THAT AGAIN...

Great point! He goes beyond merely discussing a topic on his show to the point where you think "either do something about it or shut the fuck up."

Dan seems like the kind of guy that would go out of his way to correct you that it's not Frankenstein, it's Frankenstein's monster. Also, Larry's always looking to impress Dan right? Why doesn't Larry take some initiative and ask the questions that must be asked?

Shit, Leary wouldn't ask Lovie what the fuck time it is. He wouldn't have the courage to call-out cartoon dialogue for chrissakes.

That's because Lovie doesn't like Laurence because he knows what kind of guy Laurence is.

Does Dan not understand why it might not be in the NFL's best interest to admit that there is a high likelihood that playing football is going to fuck you up considering that there's a pending lawsuit being brought by thousands of former players regarding the exact same issue?

I do that :( Old AP English habits die hard.

I'm out for the day. Not up for more concussion talk, and I'm supremely annoyed over the defense of Jeff Loria.

Don't ZZ and Larry listen to Dan's show, they cover these press conferences right? I would think that they would be pissed that Dan's sorta/maybe calling their journalistic integrity into question.

Free agents won't come to Chicago because the United Center is located on the west side. Those idiots probably think lots of people get shot around there because they're racist against Jews and blacks.

Considering they are journalists in the most liberal sense of the word, I doubt they care much for their perceived lack of credibility.

Actually Dan just think's Lovie isn't crafty enough to properly dodge the question.

Can anyone explain what exactly they are looking for from Lovie? They admit that he is forced to sorta double-talk around concussions because of his position, yet they are criticizing him for it. They have admitted a few times that he's not in a position to come out publicly and condemn the gameplay of the NFL and how it ties into concussions, yet they are asking him to do that anyway. What the fuck do they want him to say? Have they explained that yet?

Berns said: White people dont want to see white people play basketball, they want to see black people play basketball, if they're smart! That's stupid as hell, and another indication of his inability to stay away from racial talk when it's unnecessary to bring it into the conversation.

Simple, they want him to stop avoiding questions/denying the long term effects of concussions while at the same time be smart enough to know how to avoid that question in the first place. Easy.

I said this earlier but it's worth mentioning again, the NFL probably doesn't want the head coach of a NFL team admitting that there are long term health effects associated with concussions while they are currently defending a suit on the exact same issue.
