Run across any unusual bars in the city? Not nightclubs...

I was up on the top floor of Italian Village. They have a pretty sweet bar up there. Under the "starlit" night. Would be perfect except for the big screen TVs ruining the mood. (Imagine having to make conversation with someone instead of staring at a sports event you don't give a shit about).

Anyway, give me some other "interesting" joints.

I haven't been there in a long time, but I was always a fan of Danny's on Damen and Dickens. The place is divided into rooms like the old apartment it used to be.

Also, not in the city proper, but Andy's Dam Inn on Milwaukee and Hintz Road is something to see. I can't even begin to explain it since I'm not certain what it is, but if anyone has been there or goes there we can commiserate.

Great sound system. And they keep the doors/windows open so there's always a nice, cool breeze in the place.

The North End.

What's unusual about it is the name.....It's called The North End, but everyone that goes there is generally interested in the south end, sort of speak.

And all of this is from what I heard, not that I would know anything about it.

Zeleke was an asshole....thus the only bar in wrigleyville forced out....that's almost unpossible!

He has nothing to do with the new one.

Curio - Located in the basement of Gilt Bar off Franklin and Kinzie...awsome cocktails, cash only, intimate dark setting feels like an old French Prohibition Saloon.

Watershed - Located in the basement of Pops for Champagne at the corner of State and Ohio...good local brews and sort of a midwest outdoorsy feel in a cozy den.

Pump Room - Ritzy and glamorous, in the lobby of the Ambassador Hotel spot, higher end but older crowd, cougars galore.

Richards Bar - Just a true dive off grand and milwaukee, Sinatra on the jukebox, $3 beers, union workers at the bar, can still smoke cigarettes right in the bar....

Map Room - Armitage and Daminish, sort of a dive bar / cafe combo....roughly 500+ beers in the joint though

We had a good business relationship for a number of years.

What was your issue BF, you couldn't buy the building?

I've always been a fan of the Hideout and how it's in the middle of a bunch of factories.

I think the Hideout is an interesting place and in a good spot, but there's something about the Tutens and their sensibilities that I dislike. Nothing personal, I'm sure they're nice people, but you can't really have rules if you want to rock and roll and you have to have rules if you work for the president. If you wanna be hardcore, you've got to live hardcore. And I'm too much of a crackpot to toe someone else's imaginary line. Did you ever write your president a nasty, nasty letter that he would never get? Because the president don't read letters from crackpots anyway.

Laschett's- true ethnic bar in the old German neighborhood near St. Ben's. This is old chicago

Jedynka- kind of like a Eastern European brothel without the need to pay. You can really find some stunning blonde women there looking for greencard

Marie's Riptide- 4 am license with old ladies serving up the drinks until the sun rises

The bar at Marie's Pizza and Liquors is another good one. It's Christmas 365 days a year.

Okay, I admit it. I got kicked out. I believe I proffered a less than favorable response to one of the many dad rock bands on their carefully curated roster and said criticism was not well received. I believe I attempted to explain the give and take of live performance to Katie and that it isn't always polite clapping- or at least shouldn't be. She didn't seem much interested in what I had to say, perhaps because I was quite drunk from the liquor she is so gracious to make a living selling to her patrons prior to standing in judgment of them due to their inebriation.

I don't know about all that stuff, but I've smoked up in the walk in cooler, so that was cool.

Shit, I've passed that place dozens of times on my way to the Map Room. I had no idea the place was actually open.

Marie was a piece of work.

She passed away last year. I'm not sure it's still open.

If you mean industrial buildings, OK and City of Chicago Fleet management facility OK, but there is not "A bunch of factories" there.

That area is more of an urban industrial park.

Quenchers.
Estelles.
Boiler Room.

Most of the places listed here are more like everyone's favorite city bars rather than "unusual" places.

Not a complaint, just an observation.
