I would rather them play Georgia. Going to be tough no matter which team it is. But since Bama loses to Texas A&M then ND can beat them, not sure they will, but they can.

What is going to be annoying is there is going to be the whole talk of the SEC championship being the real national title game.

I don't think that's really true. The Rose Bowl has a lot of tradition and is an entity unto itself.

I guess I just don't understand the overriding desire to declare an undisputed "champion". It used to be sort of like this year's MVP race- good discussions, good arguments. But, where there's money to be made...

I'm much more interested in basketball and I don't care for where that's gone either. The Big Ten championship used to mean something. Now I'm not sure anyone knows who the champion was by the time the NCAA finals are over. And who was the champion anyway? The winner after the conference schedule or the winner of the tournament?

Wrong. If I never see Purdue play in the Rose Bowl in person it will be something I forever regret.

If people want a playoff system but still venerate the Rose Bowl as an entity unto itself, why don't they just make the Rose Bowl the conclusion of the playoff system? Because we'd forever lose the grand tradition of a school from roughly around the Great Lakes playing a school from roughly around the Pacific Ocean? That ship sailed when they stuck Texas in it--twice--and then sunk when the two conferences started trying to eat every school between them. When I was little, I thought the Rose Bowl was "the Super Bowl but for college," in my more innocent days before BCS awareness.

The Rose Bowl is like nothing else in sports, though you are correct it has been devalued by going away from the historical format.

I'd be happy if it was always best available Big Ten team vs. best available Pac XX team. They can still use it to host the title game, but the Rose Bowl is just different and it's sad that it's not what it once was.

But if there was a choice between seeing Purdue in a national championship playoff or the Rose Bowl you would pick the playoff everytime.

That's not what you are saying though. That's a different point.

If it was the BCS title game, I choose the BCS title game. If they are the 16th team into a 16 team playoff, I'd rather go to the Rose Bowl.

You sound like a CPS team that talks about losing in the state playoffs so they can get back to the city playoffs and make the prep bowl.

I say Purdue should go to the Rose Bowl since they had the closest games against the only 2 undefeateds.

I would have said the same thing before watching the A n M game. Bama has weaknesses.

But I don't like the idea of going against Saban when he has 6 weeks to prepare

I don't know what that means.

Let's put it this way. You give me two options.
1) Go to the Georgia Dome and play Alabama and get destroyed in something called National Quarterfinal #1.
2) Go to the Rose Bowl and play Stanford, and have a chance in the Rose Bowl with all the history and significance of the game.

I take the second option.

Do you honestly not know? It's the greatest bowl game in history, helped define two major conferences, many teams, and millions of fans.

That would be like saying "Why the hell does anyone care about the Masters?".

That is a loser mentality. That is like saying you would rather be a one seed in the NIT then a 12/13 in NCAA tourney.

I really don't know how good Notre Dame is, but the team they remind me of is the 2002 Ohio State team, good defense with a solid running game.

Most people will pick the SEC team to win it all, but most people picked Miami back in 02, so I could see Notre Dame winning this game.

This has been a tough years for ND haters like myself. We had a good run the last 19 years or so.
I will be rooting for Alabama like I have never rooted for them before.

No, it's not.

The NIT sucks. The Rose Bowl is awesome.

In fact, my biggest concern is that the Rose Bowl is going to become the NIT.

You seem to be the only person that doesn't understand the historical significance of the Rose Bowl. I get that you personally would rather get blown out by Alabama in Georgia(or even worse, in Alabama) to end your season but I wouldn't. I'd much rather experience the Rose Bowl.

I look back on this season now and recognize it was filled with a lot of lucky breaks . This was a 9 win quality team. They should have been out of the title equation by Stanford
