That's about enough to get him cut. That's the worst "block" I've ever seen.

What's funny is that, were it not for the utter futility of Carimi's block, Webb's block would have been notable for its futility.

The Chiefs pick was before the season started. So that's true.

The Chiefs pick was before the season started. So that's true.

He also mentioned after week 1 that he was sticking with the pick, that we all rush to judgment too soon, and we'd see where they were at at the end of the season.

Unless one of the elite, established NFL coaches becomes available, there's no way to know definitively if any given alternative is better. It's a particularly annoying argument coming from a guy who refuses to stake himself to any large-scale position (Lovie Smith should/shouldn't be extended, the Bears are good/bad) that might possibly be proven false later and instead favors wonky discussions of football minutiae (circadian rhythms, bracket coverage, hip-flipping) that allow him to reinforce his superiority over the listener without actually arguing anything concrete.

Not a great stance for someone who gets paid to talk about sports.

The worst part about the circadian rhythm thing is that this game doesn't even apply to the study. "East coast teams going west have no chance because their body clocks are wrong! Now, granted, the Bears aren't an east coast team, but still! Makes ya think!" Maybe the Bears are just two-thirds as screwed as the Giants would be; the Broncos, one-third.

Interesting inverse to the whole thing: the Vancouver Canucks recently (I want to say 2008) started employing sleep scientists, dietitians, and other various medical professionals to address the unique rigors of being a Pacific team that plays almost all of its road games in Mountain, Central, or even Eastern (two Detroit, two Columbus, nine on the East Coast) Time. It's served them well, but clearly, there's no adjustment of circadian rhythms that can stop you from being self-destructively whiny bitches.

The circadian rhythms thing is sort of interesting in a vacuum, but it wasn't presented in a vacuum. It was presented by a guy who belligerently demands rhetorical exactitude from every caller and yet eagerly embraces Malcolm Gladwell's philosophy of an academic study happened once, and it said something, and I want to sound smart, so without reading any of the relevant literature--including the study itself--I'll just blithely claim that its results fit whatever intellectually lazy position I've chosen to advance and no one will be the wiser.

As soon as I read the title of his blogumn, I heard Dan's own voice in my head yelling "Are you saying that the Bears were bad because they were tired!?!? Based on one study!?!? That you haven't even read!?!?! And you heard about from Frank Deford!?!? Correlation isn't causation!!! Hang up on yourself and die!!!!!"

I'll never truly understand why people listen to this guy. He's a pompous asshole that always tries to belittle the people that listen to his show.

I turned off the radio at 3. I came for tone-deaf righteous indignation over flippant racial insensitivity and I got it, thanks.

I could almost hear Bernstein choking on Peppers ball sack when Hub said the Bears D line has been below average all year and finally got exposed in a game.

Did Hub actually say that? If so, I don't think he's watched the Bears play this season.

He did indeed, and Lil Danny just sat there and let Hub say that about his big black stud boyfriend Julius without as much as a peep to the contrary
