Question for the hard-core beer-o-philes. Maybe we have an aspiring Cicerone in the house?

What exactly happens at a beer "session?" How long do they last?

session beer
n.

Any beer that contains no higher than 5 percent ABV, featuring a balance between malt and hop characters, and typically, a clean finish - a combination of which creates a beer with high drinkability. The purpose of a session beer is to allow a beer drinker to have multiple beers, within a reasonable time period or session, without overwhelming the senses or reaching inappropriate levels of intoxication.

Supposing a handle-bar mustachioed hipster asks me along to a beer session with his amigos. What exactly would this entail?

don't forget green and/or maroon corduroy pants, impeccably clean "old school" Pumas, and an ironic t-shirt.

In terms of session beers to enjoy, give Founders All Day IPA or Stone Levitation a whirl.

Its not long. Usually she is in the middle of making cookies or doing laundry, and about a minute after you walk in, Chris Hansen appears and invites you to have a seat right over there.

No, I'm (semi) serious. My initial question was about the session itself, not so much the beer. I picked up a six pack of some three floyds stuff...it said it was their "session" beer. I thought, jeez, these beer guys make this stuff sound so serious. funny the wine industry has been going the opposite way, trying to make it "accessible" to everyone.

Yep. Went to World of Beer in Arlington, TX last week. Wish I could remember what I had. Careful with the Double Dog Pale Ale. That's a different kind of buzz.

Is this a parody thread, like Darkside's thread about putting food in gin?

Isn't a martini without vermouth just chilled vodka?
