Particularly given that Dan's a self-described "football nerd," the whole that gimmicky spread-offense crap won't fly in the big-boy league! argument is such a bizarre, wantonly ignorant hill to die on. What offense do they think the Patriots run?
It's his ignorant belief that Pro sports = super complicated and College Sports = not complicated/dumb.
Same reason he creams his pants over some NBA coach "running tons of stuff" and totally ignores the technical aspects of a well run college basketball team. This is also in the same league has his disdain for crazy college football offenses when the pro teams run similar stuff.
I can't explain Terry going on and on about Alabama being too emotionally drained after the LSU game to defeat Texas A&M when the show wraps itself in the "Sports is a Spreadsheet" mantra. Surprised Dan didn't go after him about that....wait, no I'm not.
Pretty much. College football is significantly more inventive, creative, and scheme-diverse than the pro game, and has been for quite a while. A self-professed football wonk like Bernstein should be glued to the TV on Saturday afternoons. Instead he gives us bland platitudes about
stuff and marvels at Bowen's knowledge of landmarks. Tiresome.
