Coach Thibs wants to win. How in the hell does he motivate these guys until "you know who" eventually returns? Even when he does return, the Heat are far & away the team to beat in the Eastern Conference. These Bulls aren't winning the NBA Championship the way they're structured now.

Granted, I've only been half listening, but what the hell was he even trying to say in that segment? Much like his blogumns, I have no idea what his point was.

Terry was saying that the Bulls weren't trying to contend anymore, which threw up the Dorfsignal for Dan and made him go "wait wait wait wait they meant to do this, GarPax signed bad bench players because they're bad can't you see?"

Granted, I agree with the premise that this isn't the Bulls' year and they shouldn't try to win. Part of that is not assembling a world-beating team. The other part is not trying so damn hard to win the games you're playing. And they're still doing that with this shit sandwich. And they're going to wind up 41-41 like the talented but head-up-assed Vinny teams or the depleted '06 Skiles team and we'll be in the same big nowhere we've always been in.

I only really like Bernsie talking NBA because it gets you so apoplectic. Sorry FF, I have no life.

did Terry mention a Noah/Deng trade? What was he talking about?

And yes, the bulls plan this year is to suck. Not sure why that's news. Nobody told Tom, apparently.

CH, they're not going to be bad enough to miss the NBA Playoffs completely and they won't finish 41-41. The Central Division still blows and the Bulls can still win a really bad division. You'll see proof of that Tuesday vs. the Pacers.

Well, with good but fatally flawed teams, they've finished 41-41 three times in the last six full seasons. I'm just playing the percentages here, o finnèd one.

Okay. I'm not sold on the rest of the Bulls' division. Cleveland? Detroit? Milwaukee? Indiana? The Central Division blows! Besides, I'm starting to think there's a lot of parity as the NBA nears the end of November.

Yeah, you could kinda tell when it first happened a few months ago. It just had this certain quality.

Fair enough. It used to annoy me when I'd check the board while I was in the Army and I constantly heard almost a near-concensus opinion that these goofs were the best NBA talkers in the city. I would always think "that doesn't sound right, they're basketball idiots." so when I moved back here I tried to make it a point to see how accurate that label was, and now I find it even more absurd. It's also why I dislike Hub so much. You're not allowed to be arrogant about something if you're constantly wrong and saying inaccurate things. I think it's just more obvious with Hub because the NFL is a lot more popular than the NBA so "The Chiefs are gonna win the Super bowl." sounds a lot worse than "James Harden is equivalent to Ben Gordon" even though they are equally laughable and absurd.

Uhh... We better be getting a top 5 player in return or two near All Stars if that's the case.

You gotta love that being anti-homeschooling by extension makes you pro-Two and a Half Men. Under any other circumstance, undermining Two and a Half Men would be applauded!

Sorry Mrs. Berto, you're no longer important enough to have your name on our practice facility. There's too much money on the table.

I assumed that's what was being intimated but I missed most of it.

They can likely just also replace 'the Bulls' with 'x' and paste that every hour.

Bernsy is unintentionally hilarious when he tries to sound like a critically thinking smart fan. I've noticed he's been increasingly using, "pointing out the mike backer" in football questions/conversations.

I may be missing something but is pointing out Brian Urlacher or Patrick Willis pre-snap a complex task?

That's what I find funny about Bernstein. Maybe his belief that all his callers are stupid meatballs has blocked him from realizing that fans can tell when he's faking the funk when it comes to analyzing sports. He clearly heard Chris Collinsworth mention that the past two Sunday night games, and now it will be his little thing for awhile until he hears someone else mention some other cute little already pretty well known football term that he likes more.

I assume he's talking about the Mike from the offense's perspective, in which you're thinking of it backwards. When the QB identifies the Mike, he's just pointing out the unblocked defender and sliding the protection accordingly. From the QB's perspective, the Mike isn't necessarily a middle linebacker (or any linebacker, for that matter); he's just the defender who's unaccounted-for by whatever blocking scheme was called. Identifying the Mike allows the extra defender to be picked up, usually by the center or RB.

All that said, if Bernstein is using the term "pointing out the Mike backer," he's completely wrong, since the Mike could just as easily be a blitzing defensive back. And more to the point, you're right that there's no media personality more enthralled by his own rudimentary football knowledge than Bernstein.

Except when the Bears lose, in which case football is an inscrutable series of random self-contained events that teach us absolutely nothing whatsoever.
