I'd probably say 70k would make me happy. That's enough to pay bills, put some $$$ in savings, and be able to take trips. Not nearly NSJ or BRick or Dr. Ken money, but I'd be happy.

If you need money to be happy, then the answer is there will never be enough.

Agreed.

I dont think there is any amount of money that would repair my relationship with my parents or some of the issues I face in my life.

The better question is: How much money do you need where money wouldnt be a problem anymore.

200K sounds good for that.

Hard for money to a problem when you don't have any money to have a problem with.

Where you live and what you prioritize are important. I compare my life with my friends' lives in detroit area:
Them: Wake up at 5:30 so that they can get up and out of the house by 7, get the kids to daycare by 7:15 to commute to work which starts at 8. Work until 5, drive back to daycare, pick up their kids at 6, home by 6:15-6:30, eat dinner, get the kids ready to go to sleep at 7:30-8. They get an hour or two of time together before they fall asleep to start it all over again.

Us: Wake up at 7:00, I'm out the door at 7:45 to take my daughter to school and I go to work. My wife stays home with the other two kids and takes one of them to preschool at 9. I work until 5:00, come home by 5:15. I make dinner for the family. We have 6:00-7:00 game time, our youngest goes to bed. 7:00-7:30 is project time for our oldest two. They go to bed, I work out, then my wife and I have time together from 8:15-midnight.

Because the both of them work (out of necessity for the cost of lifestyle they have/need) they make twice as much as we do at the moment. However because of where we live & other factors, we actually have a similar level of disposable income. They (especially the wife) would trade positions with us in a heartbeat (she would love to stay at home with her kids...or she wants me as a husband, I've never really asked her to clarify what she means by that). Granted, I'd love to have twice as much income, but at the moment it doesn't really make that much of a difference and my wife's planning on going back to work once all the kids are in elementary school (three more years) and this time when the kids are young only happens once and my wife and I do not want to miss the major milestones.

Your wife stays home & you make dinner. I know who's living the high life.

A. She does all the cleaning and laundry.
B. You have never tried my wife's cooking.
C. Who would you trust to do your cooking: the daughter of a woman whose only setting for cooking is burnt or the son of a restaurant owner?

Whenever someone makes a comment about the "high life," I immediately think they're talking about the "low life."

Very true. Happiest time of my adult life was when I was working at Midway Games from 07-09. Wasn't getting paid much, but it was an awesome job and I had the best manager/boss ever.

It is very hard not to make money the means to an end given our culture. Just look at the subject and tenor of the writer for this article. The writer doesn't say "GAH, people think they need THIS MUCH MONEY to be happy???" The writer makes it pretty obvious that money is the means to an end.

What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?

Ask: Donald Trump, Vince McMahon, Bud Selig, Jerry Reinsdorf, Mike McCaskey, Dutchie Carey or any other souless beast roaming the earth.

I'm wealthy beyond my wildest dreams growing up.

I'm nearly certain that your checking and savings accounts are more substantial then mine are.
