Im still predicting Sutcliffe. They will have to have someone do it when Sut has ESPN duties.

Hire a younger guy trying to get his foot in the door for that role. Being a fillin for Sut would be a great oppurtunity.

A lot of people are pissed that Brenly will be gone. They have to replace him with a popular ex Cub or at least a big name.

This might be a surprise to some. CBSSports.com's Danny Knobler says former Astros' pitcher turned analyst Jim Deshaies is the pick to replace Arizona-bound Bob Brenly in the Cubs' TV booth alongside Len Kasper.

Good choice.

I would have had a very hard time listening if they chose Todd Hollandsworth.

The Cubs & WGN Sports haven't commented on the CBSSports.com story, but here's a little background:

"As manager, you have to go 7 innings before you get tossed to qualify for the win. Mills is in line for win & Pettini can get the save." JD

"That pitch was up, but then most pitches are up for Altuve." Deshaies

"He has a high pitchability quotient. The HPQ. Don't look it up. I made it up." Deshaies, praising Jordan Lyles.

"He's a hot sacrifice bunter right now. You cannot pop him up in these situations." Deshaies, on NL sac bunt leader Johnny Cueto.

"If the Marlins hit a grand slam, Bea Arthur appears." Deshaies, on home run sculpture at Marlins Park.

Brownie: "What would you do if you were Commissioner?" JD: "I'd make myself Commissioner for life."

Deshaies: "This is one of those games that needed a balk"

"Buy one, get one kid free for anyone 21 or older." JD, on Astros "Kids Free All Summer" program that starts next Monday.

"It's the Barbara Walters matchup today. Wandy Wodwiguez against Wandy Wolf." Jim Deshaies

Watching a bit of him, I think him and Len are going to be great. Seems to have a good dry sense of humor that's going to be needed for another 90+ loss season.

The peak of my Cubs fandom was 2003-2008, so I still in some sense regard the Astros as a significant rival, and feel weird about taking one of their voices. I'm sure Astros fans would feel the same way if their team started to employ, I dunno, Al Hrabosky or something.

They are in the AL now, so who cares.

Which is stupid, but that's for another thread.

Their last few bad years notwithstanding, I just don't feel like Houston is a stepping-stone media market. Of course, I don't feel like the Cubs are a stepping stone to the Diamondbacks, either, yet here we are.
