Well, I think it's a damn good thing to learn disappointment early.

I know how it feels to be disappointed. When I was seven years old no, 8, all I wanted for christmas was a new red bicycle. My favorite uncle, uncle alfresco, swore to me he would buy me that bicycle. I counted the days until Christmas. 5 o'clock Christmas morning, I run downstairs and look under the tree and what do I find? Uncle Alfresco, dead on the floor, shot in the back of the head. Plus, no bicycle. It was a disappointing Christmas on many levels.

This would have never happened if there wasn't a gun in the house.

I'd get the Kindle Fire since they are more likely to break it and it's cheaper, but I see no problem with an iPad or Kindle Fire at virtually any age. My whole life was defined by me learning about computers because of Starcraft. You never know what will have that kind of effect.

Spent no more than $30 on each of the nieces and nephews (7 total).

Anything more is silly.

Got the niece and nephew , 7 and 8, years old.

My mom calls and asks if I am contributing to the fund to get them holiday gifts? I say, OK, how much. $200

$200, from me? My other sister, mom, and their parents for $1000?

So I asked what are we getting them?

My 8 year old niece wants the Ipad mini...because the I pad she has, isnt good enough???????

and my 7 year old nephew wants WiiU...because he is bored with Wii, X Box, Playstation????

Not against the 200$, but do these gift requests seem like some spoiled shits?

If everyone involved has that kind of scratch, I don't really see any inherent evil in the idea. I guess another angle to it is, if that money isn't spent on the kids, what else would it go to? If it's not something charitable or towards the bills, I also don't know what the fuss is; enjoy others' elation.

$200 for each niece/nephew seems crazy to me, but I suppose it's relative to what you can afford.

We buy for 7 nieces/nephews and probably spend $250 total, with $75ish of that going to our godson. Luckily, they all have reasonable expectations.

Even HRH knows better then to ask for too many large gifts. She did ask for a ipod touch from THE Nana, which will be nice so she can program her dance music on it and put some apps on it.
She wants this animated horse robot thingy that I asked her will she really play with that after a few weeks and considering that she might be a bit older for it and told her that to not be too upset if she doesn't get it. She is just happy to get a few toys, books, and such.

Thank you, couldn't figure out the name. I asked her would she rather that or keep up with the Horse riding lessons where she actually gets to be with a real horse, touch it, feed it, clean up after it.....She went with the lessons.

but for certain toys that a kid will play with for a few weeks maybe a month or two I can't justify dropping that kind of coin where she won't put it to good use

That's probably why she wants it. It's the horse she can take care of at home. I think target has American Girl knock offs or if she is into AG dolls look at that one.

She has penny and patriot that I was able to find at a thrift store a few years ago. She has more Breyers then some stables have horses. I just would rather put the money towards a gift I know she can/will use. I kind of swayed her to Monster High dolls as they seem to fly off the shelves at work and she likes to watch the show. She will ___a rock when she gets her Jake the dog hoodie though

The annoying part is that spoiled rich kids turn into spoiled rich adults. Meanwhile our well grounded and appreciative youngsters turn into bitter old fucks.
