I really wish someone would call up and ask why Northwestern can get away with the "We do it better" arrogance like Notre Dame has, but he'd probably say "Sponsors are off limits. Company policy".

That's true. Drew Carey is no Bob Barker because he is physically and corporeally Drew Carey and not Bob Barker.

Every time I look at Brian Kelly,I think of a HC oblivious to anything around him besides football and a dead kid from Buffalo Grove, because nobody cared about him. He doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. Kelly should have been fired on the spot BUT just like they have done for decades, high ranking preists chose to sweep it under the rug.

We're barely an hour in and Dan has provided sufficient material for two different craps. Can we get to double digits?

At the time of the Declan Sullivan tragedy, I thought Notre Dame HC Brian Kelly & AD Jack Swarbrick should've been fired for this tragic, preventable accident. It happened on their watch, but no...

I'm quite sure they cared about not killing a student. For all you know Brian Kelly cried himself to sleep every night for 4 months over it. I'm sure the guy feels bad, but did you expect him to quit because it happened? If someone dies at a factory, you dont fire the plant manager on the spot.

It wasnt swept under the rug either, everyone who wants to know about it in the entire world knows all about it. Swept under the rug implies a cover up.

All Brian Kelly had to do is look up. Anybody with a half a brain would have told that kid to get down on that day. He didn't care. If he was crying himself to sleep it's because of guilt and regret.

Then why did the kid get in the lift? Do you do suicidal things just because someone tells you to? If all it took was half a brain, why did a Notre Dame student (who probably has more than half a brain) get in the lift?

They all made a really tragic mistake, Kelly has to live with that fact forever. Only he knows how he really feels about it. Maybe he doesnt give a rat's ass, I'd like to think differently though.

Your argument is that as head coach he is running every aspect of that practice and show know everything going on , or, he should get fired because that should have never happened and he's the coach?

Looking back, it was an unusually windy day when Declan Sullivan was on that tower trying to do his job when he was killed. He shouldn't have been on that tower to begin with given the strong winds the day of that ill-fated practice in South Bend.

I wont dispute that but I also know that if someone told me to go up in a lift on a really windy day like that I would rather risk losing my gig as football AV guy then die.

The kid probably didn't want to look like a wimp. Better a live wimp than a dead tough guy.

He should have been nestled up cozily in South's Bed Subway (store #464), enjoying a delicious Cold Cut Combo.

That's true, but does the coach have a meeting prior to practice each to discuss what job duties will be performed/not performed? Does he make his appearance at practice, and then decide upon whether certain tasks can/can't be done that day? Is his sole purpose to focus on his players performance and game planning for a future opponent and does even think about whether the practice is being filmed?

Probably right. There needs to be some personal accountabliity though in this case. A lot more people were to blame than just Brian Kelly.

IIRC Kelly was a big film guy. It seems he filmed much more than most coaches. He would have known very clearly about what he wanted, and the possible risks of not filming his precious practice. I seem to remember Dinardo breaking down responsibility pretty well on the subject and indicated that the HC was both in charge as title, but also in what he specifically wanted done.

You are correct, but the HC has to know a guy is taping in the tower.
