Anybody catch a shot of Finjilandia at 4:45 today? Top notch. The kid's not going to be behind the scenes forever. He can talk and make fun of people ON the air in addition to being the most skilled sound man in Chicago.

When does Harry's contract expire?

I've always enjoyed his work on "Earlier today on Mac, Jurko, & Harry."

Tremendous.

Have him trade places with the Tiny One. Harry belongs far, far, far behind the scene and off the air.

I heard Finji Mac. You're right. He rocks. All he has to do is learn how to make fun of people who have died tragically. Only adults however. It's not funny when it's kids. But after that 18th birthday game on. LOL.

Mac. Give Finji a weekly segment. Hell, it's better then "what's in the vending machine" or other crap you guys think of to kill time. What the hell. Give Finji a week to prepare material and let him go. Help the guy out Mac.

Wasn't he on a Saturday morning show a year or two ago?

Finji has done shows a couple of times. He's the back up to the back ups at the station. I don't remember him having a regular Saturday show.

They should bring him out again. Chicago's Sports Exchange is, uh, not good.

Yes, I heard him, Mac. Never heard Finji on-air before. My observations:

-Smooth and relaxed. When he first spoke he didn't say something stupid like "thanks for having me here." Instead, he pulled a timely reference to the help the Cub needed from Harry. Instead of saying "Yeah, I'm pretty hip" he challenged Mac's assertion of hipness if he thought Finji was the hippest guy he knew. Both examples of a guy who's at ease behind the Mic.

-Natural, deep voice. I like Mark Silverman, but sometime's it's hard to listen to guys that are in the whiny range. Finji a natural baratone. Couple that with point 1 and it make for an easy listen.

-Could be funny. It seems like he possesses the ability to look at the side of an issue other's don't and find humor. This is critical for radio success.

-Willing to take a controversial position. His argument about having the intra city rivalry tri-annually put him out on a limb, but was well thought out. "Don't look now Finji, but you're making an argument."

I had an hour + drive in front of me and was actually disappointed he was sent back to the "metal shop" so quickly. I wouldn't mind hearing a full segment or two with a four man booth on a regular basis.

Thanks NSJ. I appreciate the compliments. But more importantly I appreciate the "Few Good Men" reference.

Finji WAS good stuff. Like an earlier poster said...give him a week to prepare and he will KILL. Time for some new blood. I suspect he would talk circles around ZZ and LH...and probably Jason Goff too. He and Drinky would be an interesting pair.

Jesus Christ. I don't know about putting him in the broadcast hall of fame. Saying the Cubs/Sox should play every 3 years isn't the most profound thing ever said. LOL.

But still, Mac should give him a chance at a weekly segment. Make it happen Mac.

Hey Finji. By the way. Why didn't you get a chance to be Executive Producer of MJH? You've been there. You should have been next in line. Are you pissed at Mac for not allowing you the tryout instead of Zetterman?

Mac, maybe you can answer that in case Finji is scared to answer that honestly.

I'll be completely honest, I haven't had the chance to listen to sports radio much lately because of work, but when I have I've gotten bored rather quickly. That was until Finjilandia today. That was the freshest sports talk i heard in awhile. No, I'm not putting him in the HOF, but he did shake things up a little and sounded good doing it. This really needs to be a weekly thing. And agree on the vending machine thing. If that was actually given a shot, then why not this. The vending maching bit might go down as the most pointless and most unentertaining 3 minutes ever in MJH history. Boys Toys would have been a better segment...and wouldn't have gotten the ax so quick if it was given the proper name, Manventions.

Beardown, I'm not scared at all. It isn't a contentious topic by any means.

Technically I was the executive producer for most of 2006. But Mac and I both agreed that I was more useful and beneficial to the show as the sound guy. It's what I've always done. So I went back to being the "surgeon of sound" exclusively. It's better for me and better for MJH.

So your short answer...no, I am not pissed at Mac. Zederman is better cut out for the executive producer position than I.

I must be the only listener to enjoy the "Original" Vending machine bit.
In it's initial format, it was stupid irreverent fun, beacuse it's virtually impossible to guess correctly - which was the whole point.
Reminded me of "you can't win" trivia that Kevin Matthews use to run for months at a time, but with a better jingle.

In it's new format Vending machine it's just a dumb way to give away a prize.

Talk is cheap. Pay the man for superior work.

I did not hear the segment.

Was that the "Sunday Bloody Sunday" rejoin? I didn't listen to the radio much yesterday, but when that was playing after the discussion of Waddle's future household my jaw about dropped - you're the best Finji, and you apparently have big brass ones!

I heard it and thought it was good as well. Given that MJH is probably at least 120 years old collectively it was refreshing. A weekly segment would be cool.

I remember a Ben Finfer at the U of I when I went there. Sports section of the Daily Illini I believe? I think we've known what the JDs, Silvies, and Carmens can do. I'm all for chumming the water with fresh bait.

Finji . . .

I thought the combination of you and J. Hood was EXCELLENT radio last week. What are the plans to let the two of you have another try? What was management's review of your performance? I thought the chemistry between you two rivaled what the station has historically had in the 9am and 7pm slots.

Honestly, I didn't have high expectations because of the newness of the pair, but I must admit I was more than impressed.
