cheap and not as bad as Morel. Sox fans have low expectations.

I remember the last time the Sox picked up a 32 year old 3rd basemen/utility guy with no power and was nothing special with the glove...

The Tigers will have Victor Martinez back and obtained Torri Hunter and lost nobody of consequence. The Sox will have lost A.J. as well as Youkilis and will replace them with lesser players yet Sox fans want to believe they will win the A.L. Central. In reality Rios will probably continue his pattern of sucking every other season and after leading the Sox in innings pitched in 2012 Peavy is sure to break down in 2013 and Sale will probably have a stint on the DL after throwing over 100 more innings in 2012 than he had in 2011. No, the Sox are more likely to finish in 3rd place or lower...

Since we're now predicting injuries for the White Sox, I predict Justin Verlander will blow out his arm next year, and Miguel Cabrera will be too fat to play next season.

Steve's prediction machine has about the same success rate as bigfan's party planning.

The much more sophisticated observer would realize that the race really depends on Scherzer, Porcello and Fister. If those guys pitch like they did in the second half, the Sox aren't catching the Tigers no matter who they sign.

By the way, the Tigers lose Valverde

He said they would not win the division, not exactly going out on a limb. He said Sale and Peavy would go on the DL, never happened.

Hey bigtater, check the date and time of that post.

You said all this prior to last season.

Wrong. I said that Sale would likely break down at some point in the season, based upon a history of having spent at least a month on the DL in each of the previous 5 seasons. This year not only will he be a guy with a checkered history of issues with injuries, but he will be coming off a season where his innings pitched went from 111 to 218. thats an increase of 108 innings. Almost DOUBLE the innings pitched in the previous season. 2007 was the last season in which Peavy logged 200 innings. It's highly probable he goes down with another injury in 2013 based upon all these factors. Sale only became a starting pitcher in 2012 and had thrown just 71 innings in 2011 and logged 192 (an increase 0f 121 innings) innings in 2012. Thats over 2 1/2 times the innings worked the previous season. The liklihood of Sale breaking down after having an increase in innings of such dramatic proportions, is high. The Sox had to skip a couple starts and give him extra days off towards the end of 2012 as he wore down, but blew it, by not shutting him down altogether. It was obvious in his last half dozen or so starts, that he just wasn't the same pitcher, due to fatigue and to protect such a valuable commodity he should have been shut down. I never predicted he would have any issues with injury before June of last season, after seeing how many innings he had already thrown and how many he was on pace to pitch. the Sox would have been wise to pay such attention to it, rather than abusing their most valuable player.

Oh yeah, he said Sale wouldn't keep up the pace he was on. Steve was right, but at the time ol' Steve made the "prediction," Sale was something like 9-2 with an ERA under 2.50

Why do you even bother making predictions? As soon as they are not going to pan out as you say, you change your predictions.

Like last year for example. All season long, you said the Tigers would win the division by five games. Once you realized that wasn't going to happen, your prediction became "the Tigers will win the division". When they did, you patted yourself on the back, and looked foolish doing so.

I think his best prediction was that Chris Sale wouldn't keep up his pace of 9-2 record with an ERA under 2.5

He probably predicted that Philip Humber wouldn't keep up his pace of retiring 27 consecutive hitters.

The Sox will lose to the Tigers by more than 5 games in 2013. Further, they will finish behind Cleveland as well.

Why Cleveland? I'm not saying the White Sox are for sure 2nd place team, but I don't know that I'm overly impressed with anything they've been doing.

In the last two seasons, Kansas City has looked like the up and coming team in the division. If anybody unseats the Sox in 2nd, I'd think it would be them.

KC will probably have a decent offense and should have better starting pitching. Their bullpen is awful.

They have added veteran pitchers (Shields/Santana) this off-season to bolster their pitching staff. I don't think they have an ace, but it's a better group than last season although I don't think Guthrie/Chen can be counted for much unless they play the White Sox, which each will 3-4 times.

I'd also tend to agree that KC may be alongside the White Sox as battling for 2nd place and a win total in the low 80's, but, outside of Detroit, there is not a lot of seperation between Cleveland, Chicago and Kansas City.

Cleveland won 68 games last year. What moves have they made this off season to close the gap? Hiring Terry Francona? Trading Choo and replaing him with Drew Stubbs? Signing Mark Reynolds? Cleveland is going to suck ass again this year. Kansas City has improved their rotation but they still have holes in CF, RF and 2B.

Yeah I was gonna say, the Indians appear to be at best a 75 win team. I'd guess the Sox to be low-mid 80's again unless "Losing pitcher" Gavin Floyd wins 25 games, which would make the Mayans right.
