I guess I'm asking if there's any connection between Hoyer and Gene Mato?
I literally don't care about Gain Floyd. I don't know why you are so oddly fixated on him.
So let's say Anibal isn't a part of the plan that they have told us time and time again (that I must have missed). What happened? Did they forget the plan? Maybe they just need a reminder? Brainfart?
The plan is to make the organization better. Anibal would have done that for the next 5 years.
I'm no more fixated on him than you are on Anibal Sanchez. We're just talking about pitchers. Why would an average pitcher signed for huge money make the organization better at this point? When they're ready to contend, the market for pitching may be different and it's possible you won't have to pay $80 million for guys like Sanchez/Floyd. There was no pressing need for the Cubs to sign a guy like that. And I'm a guy who thinks the Cubs owe their fans more than they've given the last couple years. But that long deal isn't what I'm talking about.
I'm not really sure why you're trying to argue with me. Your first response had nothing to do with my post. I merely suggested there may well have been a favor from a baseball executive to an agent that helped drive a player's price up. Would that be unheard of? I'm not saying for sure that's what occurred here, but it's certainly not a leap. If you know all the players involved and you know who they are and where they come from, you can understand why MLB didn't want an agent owning a ballclub and you can see why Reinsdorf ran the guy out.
The speculation that Theo helped the agent is fine. That may be what happened.
And yes, the market could be different in 1 or 2 years. It may be worse, which is what history continues to show. Prices are going up, not down. That doesn't mean it will be that way for sure, but if you can sign a pitcher now for 5 years at a price you are comfortable with, you do it. And obviously there was a price they were not comfortable with.
Nonetheless, the plan is still in place. Make the Cubs better.
