Probably long past due, but the rush to be the first to report information led to so much misinformation.

Seriously. Wait for the trade to go through before announcing it.

My wife, a former journalist herself, scoffs at the notion that the news readers you see on television would ever be called journalists in the first place.

I think the biggest resume item one needs to read the news is having been close to a Miss America win.

Yeah but there was a lot of newspaper reporters filing false stories online also.

Very true. Maybe it is because my wife was always a small town journalist that she never got into the rush to report a story game which leads to these errors.

The reason she wouldn't refer to them as "journalist" is because a lot of them just read the script given to them. Few make any calls or conduct interviews, nor write their own material, @ least in some markets. I think it's a bit different here.

It's like these people are reporting on the PN News. I'll show myself out.

It's because of the way the media reports it. Flip on the news and watch how we treat the Batman theater shooter and the Oregon mall shooter like celebrities. Disturbed people who would otherwise just off themselves in their basements see the news and want to top it by doing something worse, and going out in a memorable way. Why a grade school? Why children? Because he'll be remembered as a horrible monster, instead of a sad nobody.

CNN's article says that if the body count "holds up", this will rank as the second deadliest shooting behind Virginia Tech, as if statistics somehow make one shooting worse than another. Then they post a video interview of third-graders for all the details of what they saw and heard while the shootings were happening. Fox News has plastered the killer's face on all their reports for hours. Any articles or news stories yet that focus on the victims and ignore the killer's identity? None that I've seen yet. Because they don't sell. So congratulations, sensationalist media, you've just lit the fire for someone to top this and knock off a day care center or a maternity ward next.

You can help by forgetting you ever read this man's name, and remembering the name of at least one victim. You can help by donating to mental health research instead of pointing to gun control as the problem. You can help by turning off the news."

I make my living off the Evening News
Just give me something-something I can use
People love it when you lose,
They love dirty laundry

Well, I coulda been an actor, but I wound up here
I just have to look good, I don't have to be clear
Come and whisper in my ear
Give us dirty laundry

Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down
Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down
Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down
Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em all around

We got the bubble-headed-bleach-blonde who
Comes on at five
She can tell you 'bout the plane crash with a gleam
In her eye
It's interesting when people die-
Give us dirty laundry
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsfreak.com/d/don+henley ... 42033.html ]
Can we film the operation?
Is the head dead yet?
You know, the boys in the newsroom got a
Running bet
Get the widow on the set!
We need dirty laundry

You don't really need to find out what's going on
You don't really want to know just how far it's gone
Just leave well enough love
Eat your dirty laundry

Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down
Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down

Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down
Kick 'em when they're stiff
Kick 'em all around

Dirty little secrets
Dirty little lies
We got our dirty little fingers in everybody's pie
We love to cut you down to size
We love dirty laundry

We can do "The Innuendo"
We can dance and sing
When it's said and done we haven't told you a thing
We all know that Crap is King
Give us dirty laundry!

I don't think Morgan Freeman said any of that. Except the part Frank added, he did say that.

I guess being a reporter in these types of situations would be a difficult, fragile line to walk, but some of these guys and gals have no shame whatsoever. Props to Art!

In the dick eater's defense, this is true. I used to write obituaries, & it is troubling trying to talk to someone in one of these situations. However, I wouldn't've went the way she did about it. You have to be more tactful.
