Look, I understand how people feel about guns. I get that. Guns are pretty scary I guess, particularly if you don't know much about them or you get caught up in what you see on television.

I think I understand what you are saying, but don't we already do this and usually by more arbitrary standards? I used the example of the drinking age earlier, it has an arbitrary age limit 20 year 364 day old person cannot drink. One day older: go at it (a better example would be the right to vote but alas). However when it comes to gun ownership, shouldn't there be some people who should not have the right?

magazine sizes, bans on "assault" rifles... this really won't do anything. So instead of 3 15 round magazines I carry 5 eight round magazines. Instead of a .223 bushmaster I carry a 7mm Remington. Really no significant difference.

Look, there's something like 320 million guns in the US. The overwhealming vast majority aren't involved in any crime.

There's no automatic weapons involved in this crime today. Rarely is there automatic weapons involved. Only one I can think of off the top of my head was that Beverly Hills shootout. There's probably others but none come to mind.

Automatic weapon will fire as long as you hold down the trigger.
Semi automatic weapons will fire one per trigger pull and will reload the next round as a function of the shot going off.

Almost all handguns are semi automatic.

Again, automatic weapons are extremely rare, and in all cases illegal. S

well they don't just fire off 5 bullets a second automatically. You have to be ablt to pull the trigger 5 times a second.
Therefore, a simple revolver like a .38 special should be technically able to fire 5 rounds a second.
Again, these are not automatic weapons. They don't just fire 5 rounds a second. They have to have the trigger pulled 5 times a second. Any Semi auto should be able to do that if in the hands of an extremely experienced shooter.
There's no way of limiting that.
If you want to make a weapon capable of shooting 5 times a second (again, that's an EXTREME capability of these weapons, that's an ideally trained and experienced shooter mind you), then you make pretty much every weapon imaginable illegal. MAYBE a pump action shotgun, but I can get off 3 pump fired rounds in a second with my Benelli and I'm not exactly trained military.

That gun was just fine by your standards.

I'm just saying that your silly x rounds in y seconds or the standard z number of rounds in a magazine is not going to work.
It's just some number that someone made up to give people the false sense of security. It's more dangerous than the actual weapons if you think about it.
