I thought his response was predictably narcissistic but I only listened to the last 5 or so minutes and really don't care about sports radio's response to the incident.

I only respond here to reiterate that nothing that he did was praiseworthy. If it were praiseworthy, he certainly already received his reward from the guy who thanked him for the discussion in the five minutes I listened to it.

You don't care for Bernsie reading NYT crossword puzzle clues?

That's my feeling as well. Obviously, it's something that's going to have to be mentioned, but it's probably not a great idea for guys that are going to be saying "by cracky" and suggesting everyone named Bob is brain dead and taking a call from someone who calls himself "Maddux Boy" in the next half hour to dwell on it too much. To me, it's one of those things where, what can you really say?

The Lite broke into its christmas music with the same updated report every half hour highlighting the 20 CHILDREN THAT WERE MURDERED. I could get the news on just about every other station. Obviously if I am turned to the christmas music station while listening with my children, I'm purposely avoiding the heavy discussion. Same with the Score.

Does any of this change if a different Score personality was praised? Mac?

I agree with you, but we're in a strange time for media. Although, listenership, viewership, and readership have been splintered by outlets catering to specific niches, there are still vestiges of the past remaining in the form of high level executives. In the past there was no question that a story so large had to be the immediate priority for any station. But at this point, with everyone tethered to a mini-computer, I think you're right to suggest that a Christmas music station could just go on playing "Jingle Bell Rock" and a shock jock sports show could simply continue slamming callers with names like Roy Oswalt's Bulldozer and Virgil Liver's Left Nut without even mentioning it. We're just not quite there yet.

Those likely are not his real true feelings all the time. They might be, but I doubt it. His true feelings won't move the meters as much as a different point of view will.

Here's my take. I didn't hear him weigh in on this, but I have no doubt that he may well have been sincere. But when he is on air acting like an inhuman raging penis- which is the majority of the time- I am often cautioned by some of his most ardent fans that this is just an act, a character he plays on the radio. So for me, it becomes a matter of, how am I supposed to know when he's sincere and when he's acting? It obviously isn't clear.

And that's the difference with Mac. I don't always like him. Sometimes I think he's an outright buffoon. But I never question his sincerity. I have a feeling I know exactly who he is. And I respect him and like him for communicating in that way.

In other words, it matters to some who actually made the comment.

Of course it matters. That's life isn't it? Nixon went to China. George McGovern would have been able to.

Mac is my favorite radio guy in the city but if there was a Shoutout to him here for the exact same reason my response wouldn't change.

But as JORR mentioned, Bernsie has only himself to blame for anyone questioning his sincerity on-air.

I'm not on twitter, but I check twitter pages as part of my searching the web habbits.

This exchange between Goff and Bernstein after the shooting rubbed me the wrong way. Bernstein basically sad Goff's voice is needed on days when 20 kids are shot. He made this comment after Goff said we need gun control. Wow, what a unique thought after this tragedy.

Dan Bernstein ‏@dan_bernstein
I have never been prouder that @Jason1Goff is from @670TheScore and @Boers_Bernstein. Showing it on a day that needs real voices.

Jason Goff ‏@Jason1Goff
@dan_bernstein @670TheScore @Boers_Bernstein The love and respect is reciprocated, my brother.

Really? The world needs to hear from fuckin' Jason Goff after 20 kids are shot? Cuz he's a "Real Voice". No. We'll go to Jason when we want to know how to pick up women, hear false reports on NBA free agents or when we want to hear some racebaiting. Nobody needs to go to Jason Goff after mass shootings.

The compliment was more Bernstein patting himself on the back for training Goff to say things that he would say. That's really what it was. It was Bernstein saying that he raised (Brainwashed) Goff very well.

Yeah, I appreciated Dan's moment on the air, but that twitter crap was, well, that.

Have to agree. There were plenty of "real voices" that day.

It's not as though Bernstein and Goff were alone on an island in a sea of people that just didn't see that it was an important story.

This is disturbingly patronizing, even for twitter, and even for Dan. I can't even break down how stupid this is.

I've gotta side with Frank on this. Call me cynical, but I thought Bernsie's little breakdown was kind of staged. Dan is the type who doesn't do anything without thinking it through. Being human for five hours doesn't make up for wishing for and celebrating when someone dies, or for making tasteless jokes about Ron Santo. I didn't care much for Santo, but come on!!

Goff's response to his master was equally insulting. Should have been "No, there are much more important voices that need to be heard in times like this. All I am is a producer turned late night sports talker in Atlanta that plays video games and hits night clubs."

Instead it was "Right back at you, my brother Dan, we'll fight the good fight on this one as we mix in the sports talk."

Total lack of self awareness. He's convinced himself that he's important.

B&B are who they are, and their show is what it is. I accept that. But they can't have it both ways. Dan got choked up about Penn St. too. I thought that was bullshit as well. You run ads for TB Diddlers which is making fun of molestation, but you're <Gasp> shocked when it really happens. Then you use your bully pulpit to accuse everyone and everything of supporting child rape. Dan made the bed he made.

I don't know whether or not it was a disengenuous thought. I do think that is was the same kind of narcissistic response. Personalize the experience and transfer the emotions onto your kids rather than being heartbroken to the families for their loss. Hugging my kid ain't healing wounds in Connecticut and my kids in Chicago already know I appreciate them...my kids in NWI on the other hand have to fend for themselves in that wasteland.

I guess I'm a horrible father but I didn't go home and hug my kids and tell them I loved them because it would have freaked them out.

I just worried about them more and tried to give them enough information about what happened so that they could be safer and not scare the hell out of them. I think there are various ways to deal with this and show your concern about the situation - all equally valid.

I think you're nailed it, Good Dolphin. Dan cries out of the fear that his children will get hurt. Out of the fear that his life might one day be destroyed.

Dan said, even before Newtown, that every day he drops his kids off at school a fear comes over him that a mass shooting will occur that day. Really? Wow. Like I said, if that's the case, he should have that same fear every time he has his kids in his car with him. Way more likely that your kids will be killed in a car accident. Mass shootings in schools don't happen enough to warrant fear.

One of the fears of the relativist.

You make your rules, apply as you will to others and run your mouth like a faucet for five hours a day to your loyal radio subjects hoping that they bathe in your intelligence.

But like those you preach to, you have to get up and face the same fears as the rest of the rabble and come face to face with the fact that no matter how hard you try, at the end of the day so much is outside of your control.

And you live your life in the same fear you mock others for being to dumb or stupid to step outside of themselves,

That movie theatre in Colorado was shot up. Dan still takes his kids to movies. Kids have to go to school. They don't have to go to the movies.

That's why I think Dan's comments were for drama and effect. Fear doesn't overcome him when he drops his kids off at school. If he's telling the truth, then he wouldn't take his kids to the movies. Taking his kids to the movies is something he can control. Yet he takes that daring chance. Why? By his logic, if it happened somewhere, it could happen to his kids.

He also take his kids to Sox games. We all know it's 50/50 to come out of that alive.

You made that up.

He said that there's an inherent feeling of vulnerability when he drops his kids off at school, as though he's turning over the keys to his car to someone else. I think most parents can relate to that.
