Something to keep in mind. Last year's Giants were 9-7, but New York made quite a playoff run. Ditto for Green Bay the year before, I believe at 10-6. Back in 2009, Arizona went 9-7 and they went to the Super Bowl, too.

Were they great in the regular season? No. Did these teams get hot and build momentum en route to winning the Super Bowl each of the last 2 years, not to mention Arizona before losing to Pittsburgh in SB XLIII? Yes.

I'm not saying the Bears are that team this year, but you just never know...

It really isn't about love. Players don't need love, and fans don't need to show love. A player can be a turd and treated like a turd. But if a player wants some love it is there for them. Fans certainly want the love, and are very receptive when it is shown. Fans booing doesn't mean a lack of love.

Brian Urlacher, football player doesn't need the love of Chicago football fans. Brian Urlacher, pitchman should want some love because very few turds successfully sell products by being a turd. It isn't in Urlacher's best interest to shun the fans' love by being a turd, at least not if wants to have some kind of relationship with the public.

And if it isn't really about showing love to the fans, then why should there be love to the media? Does the media love the fans? Should they? Probably not. So lets get rid of the antiquated notion that the media represents or reflects the fans. In fact, to do their jobs properly and professionally they should separate emotion from performing their tasks. Fans can be emotional and want love, the media shouldn't.

Which gets to the purpose of B&B. By following this extrapolation, theirs is a prasitic function of trying to derive and provide entertainment by relying upon the professionalism of the media and eploiting the emotions of the fans. So long a they're entertaining they're relevant. Being entertaining is their job.

So, Brian Urlacher can do and feel what he wants - screw the fans and media?

However,

On 5/9/12, Dan Bernstein wrote:
Be Careful, Kerry Wood

That’s something Kerry Wood needs to keep in mind the next time he considers behaving like he did yesterday, stomping off the mound after giving away the game to the Braves.

After surrendering two walks and the decisive, two-run single, Wood flung his glove into the stands, and then did the same with his hat. Even after having time to cool down before the media entered the postgame clubhouse, he attacked a reporter who dared ask him about the incident.

“Irrelevant, dude,” Wood snapped. “Why the (bleep) would you even bring that up?” He then stormed away from his locker.

Good thing this involves the still-beloved former phenom, and not, say, Carlos Zambrano or Milton Bradley. Were it a notoriously moody hot-head instead of “Kid K,” this would result in more than a shrug.

Wood needs to be careful if he wants his post-career vision to be realized, and actual baseball is only a part of it.

....In-game tantrums and f-bombs at reporters are questionable choices for someone who has based recent career decisions on taking a lot of love for granted.

1) Totally different because he's a future former player who has to worry about public image, whereas Urlacher is a future former player who doesn't

2) oh my god why do you even care, you seriously had to look that up?

Urlacher is the one on Fox and doing DirecTV commercials.

Wood has the drawer contract that will magically activate sometime when I least expect it and I'll see him for the first time since July.

Doc, you're half right. Brian Urlacher actually does Comcast/Xfinity commercials, not DIRECTV. He still does "The Final Word" Sunday nights with Lou Canellis on FOX32 @ 10P, which seems like a fitting title for the Bears' playoff hopes if the Giants beat the Ravens, regardless of what the Bears do vs. the lowly Cardinals Sunday.

Speaking of Bears/Cardinals, who is FOX Sports sending to call the 3:25P kickoff? Might it be Ron Pitts, Mac's buddy Mike Martz & "NASCAR on FOX" hottie Krista Voda?

And why should we, the fans, give a shit if Urlacher gave us his "soul" and "took years off his life?" ( ) What does that have to do with anything? If every single last athlete on Earth thinks fans are dumb, doesn't care about the fans and just put on a grand ole' show why should fans give a shit about their well being? Why should that figure in to us appreciating the players? They make millions and live a lifestyle we plebes can only dream of. It's like they were taken from their homes in the dead of night when they were 5 years old and forced into this life of brutality and violence. What a crock.

How does having players who give their "souls", which is unquantifiable, and take years off of their lives bring you closer to a championship?

Kerry Wood gave Dr. Ken a piece of his soul, localized entirely within his right arm. K-ift of the Magi.

So Gruden doesn't like "high profile" quarterbacks?? How the hell does Dan know? Does he have "a guy" close to Gruden that told him this? He sure didn't hear it on MNF because Dan hates MNF. So is this statement quantifiable?

Stupid assbag.

I think you can look at Gruden's parade of non-star quarterbacks in Tampa Bay and safely arrive at that conclusion.

Who. Specifically. Told. You. That. Jon. Gruden. Doesn't. Like. High. Profile. Quarterbacks?

Just because he had no-name quarterbacks doesn't mean he didn't want high profile, good quarterbacks

I don't like this Mighty Voice opener for Hub. HUB ARKUSH. HUB ARKUSH. HUB ARKUSH. HUB ARKUSH. HUB ARKUSH. HUB ARKUSH. HUB ARKUSH. It's a little Mully & Hanley, n'est-ce pas?

But I love that they use "We Won't Get Fooled Again" to intro the guy who picked the Chiefs to win the Super Bowl. We can only hope we won't. We can only hope.

Between Sean Jensen thinking the Bears can make some noise in the playoffs and Hub saying they'll win out and actually look "impressive" in Detroit, I swear I've been watching the wrong Bears team this whole time...the one that can't score.

It really is great. Dan has to act like Hub's the expert while clearly believing that he, Dan, is himself the expert. Meanwhile, neither knows fuck-all about the NFL, and we all get to benefit. Good radio!

Someone's wrong...

Hub says James Brown played good the last couple games and Dan Pompei says he was horrible. One of them has to be right.

Totally. You can hear the confusion and frustration in Dan's voice - "well, let me REPHRASE it", as if his mind cant wrap around the concept of Hub not being in lock-step with his thoughts.
