I agree. I made the point last week that they should just make it a Mike & Mike format by eliminating callers and packing in more guests.
I am still not sure why you would agree with the no caller point. Look at your youtube deal. How many of those great segments revolve around callers?
No doubt some of them are the suck, but there are some that really help make the show enjoyable and entertaining.
I find entertainment in seeing really idiotic callers getting reamed. But now the regular guy who calls in to make a fair point is getting treated the same way. It's not fun to hear EVERYBODY get yelled at. Only the ones who deserve it.
I agree with Kid and RFDC.
BUT, those callers that deserved it were like the icing on the cake, the cherry on the sundae yadda yadda. They didn't have those callers on ever single time they picked up the phone to engage. It was a nice little treat during the show, usually as a bookend to the conversation. They would talk about lame narratives or whatever, get silly and then Matty would sift through the callers to find the one they could punish. And it often times wasn't mean spirited and asshole-ish as it is now, it was a quasi light hearted lampooning of the caller...talking them in circles, making them change their minds, making them yell.....it was fun.
It was fun, just like the show....but that was so many, many years ago.
