With regard to "the customer is always right," I do have to agree that this mantra gets taken too far sometimes. I mean, I saw so much of it in radio sales. You get these small-business asshats who insist upon their own terribly written copy and woefully inefficient schedules -- remotes, for instance. And so when I would suggest what their spots should say, or the rep would suggest where their spots should run, it was almost always the same thing, or a variation thereof: "In business, the customer is always right, and I'm the customer." No. When you choose to do business with a marketing operation such as a radio station, it is implicit--or should be--that you are deferring to specialists. It's like going to the doctor and demanding that they give you antibiotics for your sprained ankle because you have it in your mind that when you go to the doctor, you get antibiotics, and that makes everything okay. It's probably the same idiots, too.

There have been a few occasions where I've pulled this one out on a frustrating customer:

"You're absolutely right. But only because you're the customer. If you weren't my customer, you'd be 100% wrong because what you're saying is idiotic."

I haven't done it often but it's worked each time, either getting a laugh and/or making the guy stop and reevaluate his foolishness.

Yeah, I've never understood the autograph-collecting thing, and actively bothering the signers themselves is just weird. I like the stars of local teams. Their hastily scrawled names on paper would mean nothing to me. I'd rather just say hello and thank them for playing well here.

No, because I was right with the bank teller. I'm getting mellow in my old age though. Just last week I walked into the bank and the teller greeted me with, "Hi, Robert!" and when I went to make a transaction for a couple hundred bucks she asked for my ID. I just smiled and handed it to her. She then asked for the last four of my social and I gave her that. Finally, she asked for my "secret code". I just smiled and gave it to her and asked if she was sure it was me yet. She giggled.

Steve Jobs was not a genius, and Tide isn't sponsoring the NFL without the massive demand for the NFL.

I agree that's it odd for grown men to seek autographs from grown men, and non-grown men for that matter. But Dan shouting down the e-mailer just seemed a bit excessive and comical.

I would wager that if it wasn't for those who listened out of disgust, these two would'nt have a show. They relish that type of listener. Don't hate the player. Hate the game (which Dan created).

Two callers and an email later and already I'm weary.

If autograph seekers are vermin, then why do B&B have 5x7 glossies and sharpies laying around at their remotes? If they are truly above it, they wouldn't do autographs (as I know many who don't).

Put me in the #2 category of listener who looks forward to a showgram that is entertaining. Day 3 of "Boo talk" is 2 days too many and at this point the hosts are now full of crap.

Nah. I've lived in the city my whole life. I don't need the professional friendliness or formalities. Just give me my change and I'll be on my way. Service workers are paid crap already, I don't want them to have to put a fake smile on at the same time. That's cruel.

I imagine if a grown person was so intent on getting an autograph or a hero of theirs just let them know its not a selling thing. If I said Mr. Ed Van Halen can you sign this to Pittmike my guess he knows it won't do well on Ebay?
