Let me say first off that you can't get a good Italian beef by making it at home from a frozen tub. I think we can all agree to that.

But there are various levels of failure in the frozen tubs, and Ditka's wasn't all that objectionable. The kids wanted some Italian beef, and honestly they wouldn't know if I was serving them prime rib or horse meat, so I picked up a couple of tubs.

Usually I cant stand those frozen Italian beefs, but this was OK. Mrs. Newper was even surprised by the amount of kick to it (I still had to put the giardiniera on it though.)

Get the Turano rolls and this stuff and it's not a half bad, super easy dinner.

I actually feel the same way about Ditka's spicy bloody mary mix. We all know you can't get a truly great bloody mary from a mix....but its surprisingly not awful gang

The key to those frozen italian beef kits is reeeeeaaaaallllllyyyy low and slow....it's not really even cooking...just warming....I usually buy sweet peppers and put them in as well...2 hours is a minimum in soaking...the longer the beef is in the gravy...the better....low low low temp

agree with Biggie on this. I usually let them simmer for a couple hours as well.

When younger I recall trying that Goucho stuff. Could have been worse.

Boil up the sauce, put the peppers in and then turn off the heat. Let it get warm and dump the beef in.

If you cook it too fast, the meat gets tough

The Rantis family thanks you.

Do you also place bets through them?

Two hours for beef in a plastic tub?! You guys are crazy.

If I'm getting Papa Charlies or something like that, its because I want something quick and easy. If I'm gonna simmer it over a couple of candles for 2 or 3 hours, I'll go to the local Mom n Pop grocery store and get a couple of pounds of the good stuff.
