1. Marries Harvey Wells. (a radio boss)
2. Meets Mike North. (an employee of Harvey Wells)
3. AUGUST 2004 – Wells asks North to hire his wife Anne:
Mike North, whose on-air sidekicks at WSCR-AM (670) have included burly ex-Bears Dan Jiggetts and Doug Buffone, is in for a new kind of partnership when he shifts to mornings.
Starting Sept. 13, North will team up with Chicago radio veteran Anne Maxfield, the feisty firecracker who's been delivering drive- time traffic at WGN-AM (720) since 1992.
"Annie was the one I wanted from the very beginning," North said. "From the moment I ran into her at a party, I knew right away she was the one. She's a no-nonsense, takes-no-B.S. liberal, and I'm a no- nonsense, takes-no-B.S. conservative. It's going to be great." In moving North to mornings, bosses of the Infinity Broadcasting sports/talker say they hope to expand the scope of the show to include entertainment, politics and "all things Chicago."
Maxfield, a native of north suburban Highland Park and graduate of the University of Notre Dame, worked at WUSN-FM (99.5), WBBM-AM (780) and the former WJJD before joining WGN, where she held her own with the late Bob Collins as well as Spike O'Dell, John Williams and Steve Cochran.
"I am more than excited about being in a situation where my talents will be fully utilized," she said. "I've sidekicked some of the best in the business over the years, and I can't wait to add Mike to that list. This is an awesome opportunity."
Maxfield's last day at the Tribune Co.-owned news/talk station was Thursday.
4. OCTOBER 2006 - Anne gets demoted:
CBS Radio bosses can't seem to make up their minds on a role for Anne Maxfield, who's just been restored to her old duties as co- host of Mike North's morning show on sports/talk WSCR-AM (670). In recent weeks, she'd been cut back to reading news headlines and filing her nails.
In the interim, she'd been wooed to join Stan Lawrence and Terry Armour's midday show at CBS "Free FM" talker WCKG-FM (105.9), and was offered an afternoon anchor position at CBS all-news WBBM-AM (780). Maxfield wisely turned both down. Neither was a good fit.
5. JUNE 2007 - Anne finally fired:
Anne Maxfield has signed off after three years as Mike North's morning co-host at CBS Radio sports/talk WSCR-AM (670). Her last day on the air was Thursday.
After adopting a more sports-oriented format and diminishing Maxfield's role on the show, Score bosses chose not to renew her contract. She will be paid through the end of her deal in September.
News on North's show will be handled by executive producer Jen Patterson.
Maxfield, who previously was a traffic reporter for Tribune Co.-owned news/talk WGN-AM (720) and CBS all-news WBBM-AM (780), said she plans to continue working in Chicago media and communications.
