Spiegel was told that A.J. did not respect Robin Ventura and made it known behind the scenes to anyone who would listen. The example he brought up was that previously, only wives were allowed on the charter. However, Robin relaxed the rule to allow younger unmarried guys to bring their girlfriends. A.J. was the only one who had a problem with that and he apparently threw a hissy fit about it.

I think it's deeper than that.

There's a difference between a guy being a tough, hard-ass manager/coach and a guy being a petulant, devisive bully. I think AJ is the latter. I could not see a scenario where a team would thrive and be successful with AJ as the manager.

That might be part of A.J.'s beef. You've got all these broads that sit together and are half-ass friends. Now some dope decides that this trip he's gonna skip the old lady and bring the girlfriend. There is no doubt there is logic to his objection. However, you take that up with Robin in private not out in the open.

AJ was notorious for being a bully to rookies. The moment Flowers, or anyone else on any other team, played more than AJ he would have turned cancerous.
