I have no problem with either the amateur or the professional drinkers. It's the amateur drunk drivers I could do without. Give me a guy who drives wasted three or four times a week out there anyday. There is no substitute for experience.

If you mean the amateurs that can be differentiated by their behavior, i.e getting loud, mouthy and obnoxious after two or three bud lights, then yes feel free to put me in Camp Complainer.

Yes you only specifically mentioned bars. However my disdain for amateurs extends beyond the four walls of the tavern.

i have.... second to last row of the upper deck off in the corner versus the chargers last year. this one chick was properly tanked and had managed to make it ALL THE WAY UP THERE (which, if you've never been way way up there in the soldier field grandstand, is a thing... especially if you smoke. more daunting than OG blueseats new comiskey)

and then the anthem and stuff.... and then the build to kickoff.... they're playing the music everyone is up and cheering they're setting up the ball on the T... and she horks. all over the fucking place including, but not limited to, some of my seat.

fortunately, i always go to fall/winter bears games with a preponderance of napkins on my person because you never know when this sort of thing will happen.... but seriously, unless you're some sort of alky, don't bother trying the "let's get really really drunk before the game so it lasts all game" approach unless you're willing to run the risk of this sort of thing..... or being one of those guys who you see ~12 security guys come up and surround before they carry them out of the stadium.

I would guess that much of the drunken stupidity at sporting events comes from people that attend them a lot.

There are plenty of people who drink all the time who act like idiots.

One of my friends who grew up Amish had a horse that knew exactly where to go. When he was on rumspringa and went out to get loaded, all he had to do was climb in the buggy and the horse would get him home without any driving. More than once Andy sat in the driveway slumped over in the buggy with the horse just standing stock still waiting for him to wake up.

I agree with this to a point, although I think it's more applicable to smoking weed. Whereas someone smoking as a one-off is obviously impaired (but probably drives cautious/slow), but the seasoned toker is generally just fine.

I mean, I've been the guy you describe before. Blacked out, had no idea how I drove home or, in one case, damaged my car. Many wasted post-closing time trips home - no DUIs, never been pulled over while drunk. Not my world anymore, but I can't help think it's only a matter of time for most folks. My college buddy who's doing 7 years in general population at San Quentin would agree.

Maybe it's a Chicago thing. I know more than a few cops who refuse to give DUIs and will give the drunk driver a ride home.

My buddy in the CPD would agree. Unless you're driving on the sidewalk or they see you hit another vehicle or whatever they will not be pulling you over.

Sorry , I can't give a shout out to a drunk driver or how they never get caught. I had a family member killed by a drunk driver. Nothing like getting tanked and getting behind the wheel, even though she wasn't supposed to be driving and then causing a aunt who buried a child to bury a grand child.

It has nothing to do with "growing up". You do understand if you have a beer with your dinner at a restaurant, you're probably going to blow a positive unless you're Andre the Giant. You have two, for sure you are. Drinking is a big part of American society. We tried Prohibition once. It's completely not realistic to think that anyone who goes out and has a couple glasses of wine at dinner isn't going to drive. I'm not suggesting that people should get whacked out of their minds and jump behind the wheel, but the demonization of someone that blows a .09 is ridiculous.

Some of the same mothers who are against drunk drivers are eager to buy their kids cars on their sixteenth birthdays. Those kids as a group are more dangerous on the road than the drunks.

The average guy hits that .08 a lot easier than you might think. My advice would be not to blow if you've had one that day.

My trick is eating 3 or 4 burritos before I go out drinking, that way I can only stomach about a half glass of beer before I have to stop. Still have yet to be popped for a DUI.

I know that scientifically a 170 lb. man should be able to metabolize a basic beer an hour and stay well under the legal limit. In practice with the way the breathalyzers may be calibrated, I don't believe that's always the case. Also, you can be cited for DUI even if you're under that .08 limit depending on the circumstances.

There are two ways to eliminate drunk driving. Eliminate booze or eliminate cars. That's reality. Nobody ever gets behind the wheel thinking he's going to be dangerous. That's because he's impaired. But suddenly a person is expected to demonstrate good judgment after he's been drinking. It's not realistic.

Don't drive drunk is just like say no to drugs or let's deport illegals because they're illegal. It's pie in the sky. People are going to drink and they're going to drive drunk. If you think that makes them Charles Manson, that's fine. I just don't feel that way.

For the record, I never felt as guilty about my own "transgressions" until a mildly sauced guy ran into my car (w/my then 2 yr old in the back). Something about stones and glass houses.

Thankfully, he had his insurance info & his company covered it quickly w/o the CPD having to be called to the scene. I hope he never had that issue arise again.
