Yea, I thought that Peyton was done. I'm glad I was wrong about him. I'm a big fan of Mannings & I look forward to the day that he gets into Politics as a Republican.

Grudens Offensive system puts a tremendous amount of pressure on the QB, & it is a complicated & elaborate system. Not sure if Jay could handle it, but I would love to see Gruden mentoring Cutler. I think Gruden would win the personality battle.

I wish Emery would interview Chip Kelly, but it doesn't look like that will happen.

So Gruden took over for Dungy. The first year was good, the rest not so much.

Hiring both Pete Carmichael as head coach, & Greg Williams as Defensive Coordinator sounds good too. Williams plays an aggressive attacking style of 4-3 Defense that most players prefer over Tampa/cover 2 Defense.

Greg Williams is banned from the NFL at the moment. I don't think he will be hired.

So who becomes interim DC in your scenario?

But he's banned right now. What the fuck good would it do to hire him? Might as well hire Lombardi too.

I've heard Michael Lombardi's name linked with the Cleveland Browns, along with Alabama HC Nick Saban possibly giving the NFL a second chance to coach. Quite frankly, I can't picture those 2 together.

I meant Vince Lombardi, SHARK. He would serve just as much purpose as Gregg Williams would right now.

You can put me down for Bruce Arians as well. A great offensive mind that did wonders in Pittsburgh (a city not known for its offensive) and helped win them 2 Super Bowls.

Also, Tom Clements would be acceptable. History of above average offensives and helps the Bears while hurts Green Bay.

I'm lukewarm on Clements because he doesn't call the plays in GB. Ditto for any other candidate who is not completely in charge of their respective part of the team.

Who here suggested that Bill Cowher was Phil Emerys first choice?

Broncos OC McCoy meeting with Bills, Cardinals on Saturday
By Jason La Canfora | CBS Sports NFL Insider
January 5, 2013 10:43 am ET

Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy is one of the hottest coaching prospects and his interviewing process begins Saturday, according to league sources. All interviews are taking place near the Broncos' complex, with teams coming in to talk to him.
The Bills -- who already have interviewed Ken Whisenhunt, Ray Horton, Doug Marrone, Lovie Smith and Chip Kelly -- are meeting with McCoy on Saturday morning, and the Cardinals will interview McCoy on Saturday afternoon.

Sunday morning, the Bears will get a slightly extended window with McCoy, sources said. The Bears were the first team to request an interview with him and have serious interest.
The process will conclude with the Eagles on Sunday afternoon before McCoy turns his attention to Denver's divisional playoff game next weekend.

The Chargers and Panthers, should the latter fire Ron Rivera, could enter the process late. But a long playoff run by the Broncos would extend things, with McCoy off limits to other teams for a while.

RT @RapSheet: As I just said on @nflnetwork's #GameDayMorning: #Bears will interview Montreal Alouettes coach Marc Trestman.

Don't worry, guys, Phil Emery gives one HELL of a press conference. He's probably a really good GM.

Can you go on record as to which candidates are ok and which Emery would be an idiot for hiring?

He wouldn't be an idiot for hiring McCoy though he's not my first choice. Shanahan the Younger and Greg Roman would both be better hires. Bruce Arian is OK. Chip Kelly would be awesome but that'll never happen, partly because of the albatross hanging around the franchise's neck at QB.

Idiot list includes most of the list already interviewed or about to be interviewed, sadly. GTFO with these special teams coaches. If you're going to do that, just make Toub the head coach.

Trestman has gotten some great years out of some crappy QBs.

Don't let the #CFL thing scare you off Marc Trestman. Extensive #NFL background. Helps QB for draft. Worked w/ Cutler for Pro-Day! #Bears

From wikipedia:
According to Trestman's website, "Marc has been one of the most trusted and respected QB coaches in the game. Which is why every off-season, the top NFL draft prospects call on Marc to work them out in preparation for the their Pro Day and the NFL Combine".

Some of the QBs who have been trained by Trestman include: Brandon Weeden (1st round pick by the Cleveland Browns), Brock Osweiler (2nd round pick by the Denver Broncos), Tim Tebow (1st round pick by the Denver Broncos), Jimmy Clausen (2nd round pick by the Carolina Panthers), Jay Cutler (1st round pick by the Denver Broncos) and Jason Campbell (1st round pick by the Washington Redskins).[1]

All those QBs are dogshit except Cutler...maybe.

I mean, we should be clear here. Phil Emery did his research and decided, you know, Marc Trestman might make a great NFL head coach. He did that.

Everyone has stupid ideas sometimes. You float them out and then you hear them and you realize how stupid they sound and you drop them. We'll call it the "Shea McClellan" gene. Apparently, Phil Emery lacks that gene.
