They really can't

1. Emery is a dumb ass for thinking he'd be a great head coach.

2. He's playcating dumb Bears fans who think bug eyes matter. A GM shouldn't playcate fans. B&B said this GM doesn't do shit like that.

3. He's giving this interview at the request of a McCaskey. Cuz a McCaskey thinks he owes it to Singletary. Or because a McCaskey wants to playcate Bears fans. Either way, it means that McCaskeys are still involved with day to day operations. They're telling Emery what to do. B&B told us the McCaskeys were out of the way cuz they want to be out of the way.

Any excuse for the "can't win with 'em" rant being played is cool with me.

Just a guess, but it makes me think that Emery has a pretty good idea of who he wants to hire or is at least down to a few guys he likes if he's wasting time doing interviews with people he has no intention of hiring.

Of course. Not the point. Everybody knows they're not gonna hire Singletary. The point is that the McCaskeys told Emery to give him an interview. He would have never done it otherwise. Which means that the McCaskeys (Probably George) are involved in the day to day operations. B&B said they weren't. In fact, B&B said that the McCaskeys don't want to be involved in the football operations. Clearly, they do.

When I heard this story late in Laurence Holmes' nighttime SCORE last night, it was quite a letdown. I hope this is nothing more than just gauging interest in a guy who was quite the linebacker back in the day for the Bears.

That being said, the McCaskeys still pay GM Phil Emery and whoever gets this job their salaries. If the boss wants you to do something, you do it. You don't cross the boss.

Wasted interviews are not only bad form but can become counter productive. When candidates know they take on a diminished view, like answering a cattle call. From a management standpoint you get too much "noise" in the process with the potential lose sight of your objective. If Pheel is waiting to be "wowed" in an interview how will he know? Today's circumspection becomes tomorrow's impulsiveness or worse, paralysis.

Well, didn't Reinsdorf speak from on high and request that Kenny give Guillen an interview? Biggest difference here is Singletary has coached and proven himself to be not very good, but I don't see a huge difference between Reinsdorf wanting his guy to get an interview and a McCaskey (if true) wanting one of their guys to get an interview.

Those were relatively minor leaps compared to some of Beardown's other speculations. I believe both to be true and I think you can gather plenty of evidence to support both points.

It's a real longshot at best that Mike Singletary even lands this job as the Bears' next head coach. GM Phil Emery did say in that 54 minute press conference last Tuesday that the Bears were going to talk to a lot of people, and didn't single out defense when referring to candidates.

My own gut feeling...The guy they have their eye on is still coaching in the NFL Playoffs, and because of NFL rules, he can't be hired until the team he's currently with is eliminated from the postseason. Nobody's saying how well he did over the weekend in his interview, but I think Broncos' Offensive Coordinator Mike McCoy is the guy the Bears have their eye on.

I like it. The meatballs would be happy. Would make for soem great radio...
