But if they are under contract with another team, he can't acquire their services as coordinators.

At this point, nobody has tasted strawberry JAM or dogshit. Its all talk at this point. So who cares who Emery talks to? Who cares who talks about eating dogshit?

Jelly, jam, and preserves are separate fruit/sugar preparations.

What's really stopping him? An NFL contract? Those things are hardly iron clad. Especially for non-head coaches.

Well, it certainly stopped the Bears previously when Lovie wanted to hire Marinelli for the DC position here but couldn't do so because the latter was still under contract with Tampa Bay.

Like I said as to Trestman, every minute spent talking to Singletary is a minute that could be spent not talking to Singletary. And in Singletary case we have pretty conclusive proof that he's a dog-shitty coach.

Yes, hence the creation of the title Assistant Head Coach for some of these coordinators (whatever the hell that is) to signify a promotion.

Also, the GM shouldn't be hiring any coordinators anyway. I would think the HC will be doing that (at least I hope so). So, if he's just "gathering information" then I get the distinct impression that he has no idea what he's looking for - which is troubling to me.

Oh, my fucking God.

All this hysteria over the amount of interviewees and who it is is silly. Emery is doing this to leave no stone unturned while saving himself from the questioning, "why didn't you interview so and so?" if his HC pick fails.

The playoffs are just beginning and college football has just ended. Emery has time and needs to follow the NFL guidelines regarding when he can interview certain candidates.

We as fans (I know Bernstein, we don't play on the team) just need some patience.

Do you anticipate a lot of "Why didn't you hire Marc Trestman" complaints in 2016?

Come on IB, you are an intelligent guy. You have to admit that some of the comments about this whole deal are ridiculous.

Emery talking with 13 candidates is ridiculous. The Bears announcing to the world who every candidate is is even more ridiculous. I just don't understand why Emery would want to talk with this many people. The interviewing & hiring process is a time consuming, tedious, & tiring process. Most hiring Managers have 2 or 3 top candidates who they target, & if they don't work out, you move down the list. Starting with the entire list is the sign of a guy who hasn't done this before.
Having said that, if he makes the right choice & hires McCoy, I'm good.

I don't get why people seem so sure about who is a "good candidate" worth interviewing (again, not Singletary though). Of the new HC hires this year how many of them are going to be good? Maybe 1/3? Some of the guys that fail are sure to be highly regarded and people will be scratching their heads or doing some revisionist history and saying "yeah I knew that guy sucked." I guarantee Trestman would/will have been a better HC than one of the hires this year, not because I think he's good, I don't know shit about him, but because can't miss candidates miss all the time.

Not necessarily, but I could see a lot of "why the fuck did Emery hire that guy just 72 hours after he fired Lovie!?"

Of all the coaching vacancies in the NFL, only Buffalo and KC have been filled. Those teams had a whopping 8 wins combined.

I agree with most of that. Many hot candidates will be bad coaches, and most new coaches fail more than they succeed due to the nature of the NFL. Still, I think Trestman deserves to be laughed at for being a serious candidate because he's been out of the league for a long time, and part of his resume highlights are developing/training QBs that aren't good pros. Of course he could be a great coach, but I think there's enough evidence to criticize the decision, even if that criticism is eventually proved wrong. Same with us having evidence that Singletary is a terrible coach. It just doesnt make sense on any level to interview him. I think it's also fair to question a GM who interviewed four ST coaches and zero defensive coordinators. It's hard to make a better case for Keith Armstrong than Mike Zimmer as a candidate. Emery might find his gem and pick someone who's the next great head coach, and if he does then it is fair to point that out to those of us who criticized the process. But we sorta need something to talk about around here, and I don't think there's any inherent problem in forming an opinion on the coaching search and various candidates.

Wouldn't a guy like Trestman be a better hire than some of the other candidates because he has actually been a Head Coach of a team and had some success? I mean I get it is an inferior league. But in reality has not Trestman had more success as a head coach than Chip Kelly? What has Kelly won?

I am not advocating them hiring Trestman either, but I would rather than have him over the Special teams coaches from Atlanta or Dallas

Yeah, you probably did. Doesn't mean you didn't write it yourself.

A Google search reveals that many CSFMB posts have been pruned, so all members are now free to just make things up!

I didn't, but in any event, the accusation was made well before the book came out (or anyone knew about the book).

Even better, he wouldn't even make the accusation as Scorehead. He did it as Terry's Guy, in case he got called on it. Well, he did get called on it, and everyone knew who it was.

I'll post the thread when I get home tonight. It's in my PMs but I'm on my phone.
