Chus beat me to it on the towel drill joke, dammit. Wood was a talented pitcher, but he also would not listen to anyone. Quite a few people warned that throwing style would hurt his career, and eventually, that's what happened.

Now, as far as a juicer? Doubtful. Prior? Probably.

The guy was a china doll for a reason. Whether or not you like Steve Stone, he and a few others have indicated that coaches tried to help him with his release because he was throwing across his body and putting extra stress on the arm. He didn't listen. He will never be much more than a waste of talent to me.

I don't think its crazy. I'm sure pitchers make tweaks to their delivery in the off-season. The question is, if he did lose some action on his pitches and learned to mix up his pitches like a dominating pitcher does, would he have been able to pitch for longer and won more games? Secondary to this, he never really learned how to avoid that one inning of being shelled early on.

One of Wood's big problems was he was never really effective from the stretch. He often fell apart with runners on base. If you're saying he could have figured out a way to pitch without that devastating stuff and been dominant by thinking out there, well, who knows? It appears Peavy is making such a transition now. Other guys have done it. But the fact is Wood didn't. And rarely have we seen a guy just as brutally dominating as that young Kerry Wood was. Wood never displayed a capacity to pitch particularly well without his best stuff. He's really just like a lot of guys who got hurt and were never the same.

I think Wood was really spectacular at times. Other times he was seemingly just a guy. I wonder if the legend would be so big if he wasn't a Cub?
